Well, I have a PV500 and I am very impressed with it.

I see by your previous posts you have done a bit of research - I am afraid you are in the price bracket where you think, Do I go for the Hitachi, Samsung all in, or do I go for a lower res panel that might be a better pic, PW8, PE50, or can I stretch to a 37"/42" PV500 ????

I did see a phillips 50" in Dixons before I bought my PV500 and it did look pretty impressive, but they were playing monsters inc.
Make sure you get a good long demo - in Dixons/Currys and comet. Play about with the settings and try to see somthing through component or HDMI, take some DVD's along.
It is hard to get a decent demo anywhere, if you are unsure, don't buy.

It's basically a PE50, but with a silver border, some don't like the border.
There are a lot of happy PE50 owners out there, but it isn't HD ready, as it is not HD res screen, but it is in your price range, and you get a DVD recorder.
I saw one beofre I got my PV500 in Powerhouse and it looked fantastic playing a DVD.
I am not sure if it is much better than the Phillips or Samsung, yo will have to judge for yourself, or wait for the mega plasma test 2 coming soon on the forums.

There are a few people in the same boat as you, it is a difficult choice to make, it is a lot of money to spend.
I can't give you a definitive answer as I haven't seen them all side by side. I probably would go between that and the samsung.

    Anyone else?

Lami, the PE40 is a rebadged (Currys exclusive) PE50 but all in silver. This was what I was going to buy but did not like the appearance. That Currys price can also be beaten using vouchers referenced elsewhere on these forums.

In the end I opted for the PE50 (Black and silver): total cost with pedestal and free DVD recorder (paid extra for an upgrade) of £1549 from www.123electricals4u.co.uk. Very happy with the purchase

The PE50 ped is available for £1368 from www.rgbdirect.co.uk I got my PV500 from them, no complaints from their service. I think delivery is £60 though.

    Hi

You could go to J Lewis they have a good set up there most
TV's and they give 5 years warranty but I would save another
£500 or so and get a Pioneer 435 magic magic
