I just popped by a finnish forum and found a thread about his upcoming sub shootout.

There is a list of contenders

BK Monolith-DF
Chorus Vertigo XLS 07
DIY Adire Audio Tumult 15" MK1 suljettu 100L
DIY Peerless XLS 12" refleksi 85L (Audiokit X3)
DIY Rythmik Audio Servo 12" suljettu 56L
DIY TC-Sounds 2xTC-2000 15" suljettu 140L
DIY TC-Sounds TC-2000 15" suljettu 90L
HSU MBM-12
HSU VTF-3 MK3 + turbo
SVS PB12-NSD
SVS SB12-Plus
Velodyne SPL-1200 MK2

Ns. ehkälista, eli ei vielä varmistettu tai muuten vaan harkinnan alla (tavoite olisi mitata mahdollisimman paljon jo ennen mittaamattomia subbareita).

Audiokit/Chorus X4
BK Megalith (uusi prototyyppi)
BK XLS200-DF
B&W PV1
DIY TC-Sounds TC-2000 15" refleksi 270L
Pioneer S-W250S
SVS 20-39PC+ (12.3)

To my joy the PB12-NSD and the SB12-Plus is in the lineup, but what really caught my eye was the "BK Megalith (uusi prototyyppi)"

Feel free to speculate :)

Hi All

He can't test a Megalithy ProtoTypie as not even we have one. There was going to be one some time ago but it's had to go back to the drawing board.

Thought I would clear this up as I know how these threads can get out of control. The above picture is an XLS200 in front of a Monolith.

Hi, thanks for the clarification. But isn't the black sub in the picture the Megalith prototype? The pictures name is something along the lines of "Mono-xls200-mega"

Hi HH

That's it. I must admit I missed it completely and had to download the picture and then lighten it in Paint Shop Pro before I could see.

Interesting list of subs there. To a point.

The DIY subs are of limited interest, other than for the sake of interest. Do I note some of Kramskoi's subs in there? There's enough TCS 15"ers in there for it to look like his front room!

The PB12/NSD and SB-12/Plus will plug a few specualtive gaps in the which BK/SVS Large/Small threads that happen weekly on here. Nice to see a budget Velodyne of decent size too.

What's missing? Well a few more of the high street brands. REL & MA to name but two. To see the R and T series would be nice as they are relatively unknown.

Still, the OTHER sub test should be due out soon too.

No prior knowledge, but like all tests it relies on owners to contribute. I suspect it'll lack the subs typically bought by the less committed. This is a shame, as it could provide verifyable knowledge for the cognoscienti.

Hi guys!

I wasn't actually prepared to share that list outside our Finnish forum yet, but Thomas seems to spy our forum pretty closely so he spilled out the beans already. ;) Anyways, the measuring session is definitely closing in and that's the preliminary list. I'm sure there will be some changes before the actual testing begins. Both DVDPlaza and Home Theater Shack forums will have the latest information. I can also post some updates here if you like.

Yes, it's a pity that the latest prototype or the actual product (should it be called Megalith or something else) can't quite make it to the test. Hopefully it will be ready when the next round of testing takes place though. :)

Hi, thanks for the clarification. But isn't the black sub in the picture the Megalith prototype? The pictures name is something along the lines of "Mono-xls200-mega"
Yes, that was an early Megalith prototype that I actually had the privilige to listed and take a few measurements too. Unfortunately I won't be sharing that info. :hiya:

No Kramskoi's subs. I wouldn't even like to ask what it would cost to ship a +200 lbs monster from the States. There will be my own DIY subwoofer that is somewhat similar to his, only mine uses the TC-2000, not TC-3000 drivers.
What's missing? Well a few more of the high street brands. REL & MA to name but two. To see the R and T series would be nice as they are relatively unknown.
I have already tested the REL R-305 and Stom5 last year. I tried to get the new B series, but unfortunately the Finnish importer doesn't yet have them.

MJ Acoustics subs are really rare here in Finland. I can ask what the importer says.

The PB12-Plus will have a pretty much identical performance with the 20-39PC+ which has already been tested and probably will be tested again since the owner recently upgraded it with the 12.3 driver.

Hi Ilkka,

Nice to see you're still active here. I think I speak for a number of us if I say that it'd be nice if you visited here regularly to discuss your test results in a Brit/Eurocentric way.

Much as I like HTS, for the most part, they're discussing subs that we don't get and you don't get to test. It'd be really good to see some of the current RELs budget (<£1000) involved as they seem to cause much debate around here.

I'd be interested to see the results from your TC-2000 DIY job, especially if you can point us in the direction of a site/thread where you detail the build details. Do you have a set of response plots for it, or are you, like the rest of us, going to have to wait until the spring?

Russell

PS. You should move to Britain. It's summer here already. God bless global warming.

You're right.. but I'm sure its so close to its cylindrical cousin that it isnt worth testing, maybe. I'd still like to see it done though.

It is good to see some nice healthy discussions deriving from such tests but could i please ask you Ilkka R that you are more than welcome to make the results availible here, but please do not link to other forum sites with references to the results.

That wasn't a link to the results. It was a link to the information about my own DIY sub. :nono:

You just gave me another reason more why I won't post my results here. Sorry about that.

You're absolutley right it was not links to test results and i know that, i deleted that link from you're thread because it was to another forum which was not of any benefit to AVForums.

And if that is how you feel then this thread is closed
