With detachable speakers

Philips launched the stylish looking E-Series home cinema audio 'solution' on stage in Berlin just now.

These speakers are the latest developments in Philips' 'Surround on Demand' concept, feature a design that allows the top to detach, creating four independent wireless speakers for a surround sound experience. Much like we saw in the impressive HTL9100 soundbar.

“Our new E-Series addresses the consumer demand for high-quality sound, without clunky speakers or wires cluttering up their environment,” said Erwin Schuiling, consumer marketing manager for Audio & Video at Philips Lifestyle Entertainment. “By offering surround sound on demand, the E-Series follows-up on our popular HTL9100 sound bar, giving consumers a truly unique and flexible design.”

The E5 speaker pillars measure 40cm tall and feature detachable tops that allow the system to go from stereo to Surround on Demand. There's two HDMI inputs and the ability to enjoy music from their smartphone, tablet or laptop with aptX and AAC Bluetooth streaming. The E5 is also equipped with NFC for one-tap pairing of devices. There are discreet buttons on the device for volume and source control and it E5 comes with a wireless subwoofer.

The E-Series will be available in October 2013 with a recommended retail price of EUR 699.
