    Hi,

Decided that best bang for buck so to speak that a 2nd hand amp could be the way to go.

Thing is there are just so many to choose from and I havent much experience in terms of sound quality etc. It will be paired to a set of Diamonds 10.1 which I m told are quite neutral and a Denon Music Streamer DNP-720ae

I have seen items from Cambridge 640a, Rotel RA range, Nad C320bee, Arcam stuff.

Is it just a case of watching all of these and picking one which meets my price range. They are all from respected companies so sound wise they are going to be better than my JKVC all in one (20+ years old)???

    Any thoughts/comments

    Cheers

It more of a case of what amp works well with the speakers you have and all of the one you have suggest i would of thought work well with the 10.1. It just how it sounds to you. Also music tastes must also be taken into consideration as some amp are better with some genre than others. Or even made with a certain genre mind.

To add to the list - Marantz PM6003 amplifier. Should be around the £150 price tag s/h

A Nad C352 amplifier might also fit within budget.

A couple on that well known auction site currently which looks as though they will go around the budget price

Rega Brio3 and Sony TA-F670ES would be worth a look.

If you see any on the well known auction sites, I would heartily recommend a Marantz PM7001. These tend to go for anywhere between £120-£150 dependent on condition etc. Top amp.

    Really!! as low as that?
Not that i've been looking and it has been a while since i last checked, but i've only seen them go for nearer the £200 and a little above. Can't find any for sale now, so can't gage a price.
Definitely agree with being a top amp. Awsome in fact, but then i'm bias because i have a KI version ;)

When I was looking at second hand amps a number of factors helped me narrow it down. Do you need:
    • a remote control?
    • Subwoofer or pre-amp outputs?
    • Lots of inputs or just one?
    • A phono stage for a turntable?

Thanks for advice. Definitely want a remote and not too worried about number of inputs as I will only be plugging in my Music Streamer.

One of the concern is that I cant tell how old some of these amps are

I have seen Nad c352, Rotel RA04/05 and Cambridge Azur 540a/640a all around this mark. But not sure what is better, older etc

I don't want to buy something that needs servicing if there I such a thing as servicing

    Thanks

Buy a new one - like the Marantz pm5004! Nice warranty, know there's nothing wrong with it etc etc. It'll sound as good as any other really - just as long as it doesn't clip (only 45-50w)

Only 45-50w but Wharfedale sensitivity 86db/1w/1m. With 40w you'll get to over 100db - which is loud.

Sony ES gear can give you great bang for your buck.
    Otherwise maybe:-

    Exposure XV
Musical Fidelity A1 (though maybe not quite powerful enough)
    Nad C370
    Or maybe a nice Rotel.
