If you had complete control of a TV channel - what would you put on it?

In this day of multi-channel, multi-choice viewing, if you had the chance to run your own TV channel available on digital (Freeview, Sky, Cable), what would you show on that channel??

If it were me, I would like to have a "Best of British" channel, that would be similar to UK Gold, but more diverse using programming from all the UK TV companies, using all british sourced TV and movies (including new programming output).

Lots of comedy, and drama, and no bl**dy reality shows!

A good entertainment channel - just like the old ITV, and BBC1 used to be!

A new and improved SCFI channel.

What they have on in the uk version is mostly rubbish and even soft core porn late in the evening.

A Sci fi channel should have.
Startrek (all series) leading with the original.
    Stargate (SG1 and atlantis)
    Battlestar (new and ols series)
    Lost in space.
    Dr who.
    Buck rogers.
    Blakes seven.
    tripods.
    the 4400.
    outer limits.
    twilite zone.
    X files
    ect.

This would be 7 days a week in the mid to late afternoon slot. Then a couple of proper scifi movies in the evening.

In the mornings I would have lighter scfi based programs that would also entertain kids.
Maybe some Scfi/fantasy based cartoons and some making of doc of the latest SCfi movie/DVD relase.

Agree with you there David - the output from the UK SCIFI channel is pretty P*** poor to say the least.

I've often been channel hopping, and landed on Sci-Fi and had to look twice to see what channel I was on due to the movie or tv show being non-Sci-Fi!

There are plenty of genre shows and movies that they could fill their time-slot with.

What about all those lost series such as Automan, Man From Atlantis, Manimal, Sable etc...

Series that have been shown once, and buried (although justifiably so in some instances!), whilst the same old tosh get repeated ad-infinitum.

    Hi,

I would make sure I put more US shows (both new and old, good and not-so-good ones), as well as a better selection of quality British TV shows (e.g. Dr Who, Prime Suspect, Cracker, et al).

I'd absolutely NOT allow reality TV, DIY/home-makeover shows of any kind, nor sport! I'd make sure everything was uncut, in widescreen where possible, and totally DOG-free, with short, but properly-placed ad-breaks.

    That'd get my vote!

No DOG's, uncut and widescreen (where applicable!).

I think you forgot to mention - no cookery shows either - Unless its "Shoot the Cook", where you could blow up a celebrity chef with a Howitzer! Antony Worrell Thompson anyone? ;)

And why can't adds be shown either side of a programme, rather than chopping the programme up?

It works for Sky Movies!

To start with this is what wouldnt included........news, reality tv, D.I.Y, gardening, talk show crap ( i.e Trisha style nonsense), cooking, house searching, celebrity news and scandal, fashion and lifestyle, soaps, frog or any other annoying advertisments.
    Now for the scheduling................
Early morning would be 'Classic' kiddies tv shows and cartoons such as 'Wacky Races', 'He-Man', 'Captain Scarlet' and anything else that was from the 70's and 80's and was made for kids.
Morning into lunch time 'Quantum Leap' and other cult T.V shows from the U.S.
Lunch Time hour would be a programme reviewing latest movies, dvd's, games, websites and home cinema equipment.
Afternoon would show 'Classic' U.K. drama and cult shows E.g Bergerac
Late afternoon into Tea time would show either more kiddies 'Cult' and 'Classic' tv or a family movie.
At 6.00 would be 'The Simpsons' shown in order and uncut from the first episode onwards.
7.00 would be a full and live game of ice hockey from anywhere in the world while the season was on, and when it wasnt it would be movies which were uncut.
At the conclusion of the game or movie would be an hour of British comedy.
Followed by uncut movies once again until its time for the kiddies tv again....................

Following on from that - I'd go for:

06:00 - 10:00 Kiddies shows e.g. Rainbow, anything by Gerry Anderson, Danger Mouse, etc..
10:00 - 12:00 Shows like the Champions, The Prisoner, Danger Man, The Avengers
12:00 - 13:00 Entertainment News - update on new movies, and tv + av kit. (OK I knicked that one!)
    13:00 - 15:00 Afternoon Movie
15:00 - 17:00 More kiddies shows - Ivor the Engine, Noah & Nellie, Rhubard and Custard, Tomorrow People, Grange Hill etc...
17:00 - 19:00 Comedy - All your old faves e.g. On the Buses, Rising Damp, Steptoe and Son etc.. including new commisioned comedies.
19:00 - 20:00 New Drama Showcase - New family oriented drama e.g. Blakes 7! :smashin:
    20:00 - 22:00 Evening movie
    22:00 - 23:00 Comedy Showcase - Stand-up comedians doing stand-up (!).
23:00 - 00:00 Documentary - something in the style of Discovery Channel docs.
    00:00 - 06:00 Movies, movies, movies.... uncut.
