I know the velodyne HGS is king of the hill with the smaller subwoofers.
But it's well out of my price range.

If size matters....which sub is the best?

    MJA 50
    Q150
    Quake(downfiring)
    Velodyne V100

Are there anymore models I should consider?

I nearly bought a regular sized 10" subwoofer, but was forced to return it because of it's size.
In the showroom it's size doesn't really standout...but once you place a subwoofer within a normal sized houseroom....it really stands out.

In short I had to return it.

So I am looking for a good I guess midrange subwoofer. Could you guys help out?

I might add that i have 2 floorstanders(kef Q50) and the subwoofer must really be able to add something.

The B&W ASW 675 is very small but will outperform the subs listed there, looking at 500-600 quid though.

Add the Gallos MPS-150 to your list...big noise from a tiny tube.

What exactly is your maximum price. IMHO the MJ Acoustics 50 is a better sub than the REL Quake but I haven't heard the Velodyne V100 (or even heard of it).

The baby Velodyne VX-10 was announced just a few weeks ago.

MJ acoustics have just added two new baby subs - the Reference 100 & 150 similar specs to the pro 50 but with bigger amps. I have a ref 100 on order at the mo having demod 1 at the Bristol show - costs £350 in black £400 in wood veneer

I am very interested in the Ref 100 but unfortunately there seems to be little/no information about it on the web at the moment.

Of course there's always the Velodyne SPL-800...

    *pauses to wipe drool*

If someone ;) ;) ;) were to organise a powerbuy on these little babies I would be very tempted indeed.

Out of the subs you list, I'd favour the MJA Pro 50 for size/quality. The VX-10 sounds great from early feedback but I don't believe you could really call it a "compact" sub.

You obviously haven't looked in the Power Buy forum for a while. May I suggest that you look now and you may get a surprise.

mufu - if you contact MJ A I'm sure they can send you some stuff in the post - they had lots of glossies at the bristol show.

The ref 100 is better than the pro 50 - extra power certainly helps and the box is almost identical visually (v similar dimensions). Audio excellence or 7oaks should be able to help.

Thanks. I'll give them a call - I won't be in need of a v.small sub for a few months yet so will keep my options open for the time being. That SPL-800 powerbuy is about £250 over what I can afford at a stretch, unfortunately. Certainly looks like the ultimate ~<30x30x30 wall shaker though. [IMG]
