I have a Samsung DVD and have found a site that gives a code for regionX, what i would like to know is if the machine is region free, what will it play?, just region 1 - whatever or will it play other types of disc? The player only plays VCD, CD, DVD at present, its a 511 model. Can i do anything to make it play CD-R or other types of cd media...

Inability to play CD-Rs is a hardware issue rather than a software/firmware one, and isn't therefore hackable. Most DVD players will, however, play CD-RWs OK.

I had a look at the site mentioned, there were many people who had the same player, some found they could play cdr/cdrw/dvdr/rw etc, some couldnt, one even managed MP3!! so i will have to mess about and see what it will do..
