    i have an idtv which i cannot get a decent signal on from the roof aerial would i be correct in thinking that if i was to get an signal from an ntl box(where my telephone is ran from ) and use that as an aerial would it work????

    The DTT signals that your TV requires are not present on any cable feed, you would be able to tune in to a handful of analogue channels that are FTA on cable.
    Since you are getting some signal from the aerial a booster or an upgrade to a wideband aerial might solve your problem.
