    Hi,

I have trawled through all the threads I can find on this, plus a good search through xboxworld.com.au but cannot get my head round how to do this. I am sure it is me as other people seem to understand it ok. Sorry

I have the Hi Def kit from MS, I have Splinter Cell (not budget/classic version), I have Action Replay with a memory card. I have a Hi Def Plasma screen

Can someone list very clearly exactly what I do with these items, step by step, assuming that I have never used any of the above items before (apart from the plasma of course). So, gently please, what do I do to get my Xbox HiDef :lease:

    Thanks

You need a "special" game save for splinter cell, which hopefully you can get from one of the forum members here. I'm afraid I only have the one for Mechassault so I can't help with that.

Once you have the game save, which will come as a zip file, copy it onto the action replay card. I used a megaXkey so I can't advise how to do this with the action replay, but I assume it's straight forward. Please note that you must leave the zip file zipped - do not unzip it, just copy it to the memory card.

Once you have the save on the memory card, plug it into the xbox and use the appropriate menu in the dashboard to copy the file onto the xbox harddrive.

Finally, run splinter cell and try to load the game save (which will probably be called something like "Load Linux")

At this point something called "EvolutionX" should load. If you have the correct version of the game save it will have a menu option called "Load Application" or something like that. In this menu should be the option to load something called the Enigma Video Switcher. Select that and a screen will come up giving you the option to select PAL, or NTSC modes. Select NTSC and then remove the splinter cell disk and restart the Xbox. With the Hi-Def kit connected you should now have extra options in the video setup part of the dashboard. Switch all the hi def modes on here.

That (with luck) is all there is to it. To reverse the process just Load the video switcher again and select PAL.

If the game save won't load, or the video switcher is missing from the menu in EvolutionX it probably means you have the wrong version of the game save - there are quite a few variations around and I wasted alot of time head-scratching until someone mailed me the right one.

I hope all that makes sense. If not, PM me with any questions.

sorry, I've had real trouble with this. When I said idiot guide, I wasn't kidding!!

I have splinter cell (not classic version)
I have Action Replay with an 8MB card
I have the MS hi def pack
I have a hi res plasma screen
I think I have the game save, but it is in a strange format I don't know, not winzip (WinAce?)

How big is this file I need as there are so many in this download I don't know what I'm looking for? How many blocks should it take up on the memory card?
How do you copy from the card to the hard drive? I don't have that option anywhere I can see

Can someone post a link to a download, and then very slowly step by step tell me how to do this. It takes something like this to prove to myself just how crap I am at this. It all sounded so simple, but now its driving me mad!!

    Thanks.........

Firstly get this file as Peter says. unzip it to desktop ideally, you should now have 2 zipped files on the desktop. Leave them zipped. the following is LFC's post regarding his method which I have altered slightly to relate to you.(hope you dont mind LFC :smashin: )

    Cheers

This looks reasonably straightforward! Does this approach apply to games other than Splintercell and Mech assault?

You need ideally the Splinter Cell game save just to 'NTSC' the machine then all games will run at 480p and some at 720!!

    Hi,

This softmodding does not require the machine to be chipped. Softmodding via software to get hi-def output is basically done when you don't want to hard mod an XBOX, i.e. chip it.

No worries Matt, glad to be of help. ;)

    Thanks

    Andy

It may possibly do it, trouble is the zipped file contains info that relates to action replay codes so it is just easier to use that card. You can use others its just more fiddly.

I'd have to agree with Matt, stick with the action replay one. The others will work, but it is just a pain to use them.

    Thanks all

    5) Drag and drop the two ZIP files into the AR software memory card section.

    DONE!!

    6) Remove already pre-saved Splinter Cell saves on Xbox hard drive if any.
    DONE!!

    7) Then took the newly loaded memory card, and copied saves to XBOX hard drive.
    DONE!!

    8) Then loaded up Splinter Cell, and started game with LINUX save which started the Evolution-X start page.
    DONE!!

STUCK - I've got no option called LAUNCH , just Launch DVD which doesn't work. Any ideas?

    9) Went down to LAUNCH option, then APPS, then video switcher, which brought up another panel, where I chose NTSC.
    10) Restarted XBOX, and away I went with glorious 480p output.

My old x-box broke so i bought a new one 5 days ago.

Will the softmodding work on this new x-box then or only on an older one.

Has anyone tried this out on a new x-box.

When you can see menu as below use D pad to scroll down from Launch Dvd down to Launch Menu as below

Click on Launch Menu to get Games
    Apps
    Select Apps

    Then Enigmah Videomode Switchdisc

    Evo X comes on

    Press A for Pal
    Press B for NTSC

Obviously make sure it is in NTSC.

Reboot Xbox then without game in go into Main Menu from Xbox dashboard select 'Settings'. Then select 'Video' Provided your Xbox is connected to your monitor via the Xbox Hi Def pack or at least via component then you should have 480 p etc in menu now, switch on all selections and hey presto you now are watching all games in 480p and ones that support higher res will also auto select.

    aaarrgh!!!

That menu is different to what I get! I do not have a Launch menu to choose. The best I think I have is 'install EvoX', but I am not sure what it will do so I haven't tried it. Any ideas why I have a different menu or what to do with it? :lease:

Xbox2 in glorious hi def will be out by the time I work this out
