I have just received a reply to an email I sent to Cinemaquest inc. I asked when a 240/50 version would be available and very quickly received a reply from the president of the company! He said that they had the parts and that a UK version of the Standard Ideal- Lume should be ready very soon. He wanted my address so that he could quote me a price including shipping.
I promised him there would be a few sales from the forum, maybe we could do a power buy?

Nice one, Steve. A power buy sounds like a good idea.

I've looked at the site and can't see how they are different from a standard fitting with a specified tube in it.

The Gretag tube isn't that easily available but Philips and Osram have them in their standard catalogue.
    18w 6500K tubes with 98CR (Philips) or Biolux 6500K 95+CR 15w/18w(Osram)

Am I missing something as I've only heard about Ideal-lume in the past few days?

I've just had a reply from Gretagmacbeth UK about the actual lamp used by Cinemaquest, and whether I could buy a 240v version from them. They have asked for the actual model of lamp used (which I have replied back with), and can see no problem with supplying me. They are located quite locally to me as well. I'll keep you all informed.

Sorry, was that meant to be patronising?

Can you tell me which OEM in Germany Lumiram import their tubes from?

I'm not criticising ideal-Lume, $54 isn't expensive for a finished fitting and tube.
It's just that as they're not yet available in the UK and don't have any propriority tech, I can make my own, even if it isn't cheaper.

gmt steve: From my past experience with Gretag the lamp won't be cheap but they are a very good company to deal with.

If I'm right I what I think you are after:-

Back in the early 70's when I was much younger my Father always
put a light on the back of our TV sets at home. He didn't like the very harsh light that you get from screen.

Back then the backs of TV were made of hardboard. He just screwed a BC bulb holder to the back of set and used a low watt bulb. Then ran a second lead from the same plug that the TV mains lead ran from. Probably highly dangerous, but we all servived! He still has a lamp attached to their present TV!

Should have taken the patent out back then.

Mat it was not meant to be patronising. I apologise if you felt that way.

Not all 6500K light is the same colour. Not all 6500K light sources emit the same spectrum of light.

Is there a UK version of this yet? On their site, all I can find is a massive transformer, which seems like a messy solution. Surely it should be possible to implement this sort of thing on our electric system. Does anyone know of a British company doing this sort of thing?

Why, thank you. Tbh I didn't even notice how old the thread was. I read about ideal-lume somewhere else that I can't remember, and did a search for it on avforums and this thread came up. Didn't realize it was 5 years old!:rotfl:

So anyway... anyone know of anyone in the UK that does this sort of thing? Shipping from the US is $92! That's for a transformer and a couple of lights!
