    UPDATED

I currently own a DKdigital dvd339, and I would like to buy another player with component out (not bothered by HDMI)

Basically I would like to know which one of the below would be the best option to go for, for my requirements at the bottom of this post. And which of the below would produce the best picture quality and sound quality through my av reciever (sony str-de697), and last.

Samsung dvd-p355 (Really like the look of this one, oh, and the price)
    http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/201033/art/samsung/dvd-p355-dvd-divx-player.html

    Sony DVPNS52PMR http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/conte...DVPNS52PMR~dt~DVD~st~DVD+Player~make~Sony.htm

Toshiba SD350E (the first one I was looking at)
    http://www.multizoneav.com/shop/customer/product.php?productid=19735&partner=kelkoo

    YAMAHA DVD/DivX DVD-S550
    http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/86330/art/yamaha/dvd-divx-dvd-s550-player.html

    SAMSUNG DVD-HD850
    http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/99652/art/samsung/dvd-hd850-high-definition.html

    LG DVX9900H
    http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/157741/art/lg/dvx9900h-high-definition.html

I definately want it to have:

Multiregion (or multiregionable, pref by handset, but I do have a PDA, well o2 XDA IIi)/RCE compatible (pref with a remote hack or firmware upgrade that doesnt affect other features badly)

    able to play dvdr/rw/+/- and DL+ / cdr/rw / mp3/jpeg dvd

divx (hopefully most versions up to latest)/xvid/mp3/dvd/SVCD (not bothered that much about SVCD/VCD

component out (YUV is it?) (for my projector, Panny AE200)

    RGB Scart (for my tv)

DD/DTS compatible out through Coaxial and optical (I usually use coaxial)

analog audio out too with composite video (as I connect this to a portable)

And would like it to have a great picture and sound through my lcd tv/ projector and amp

    Thank you in advance

    tris

No experience of players in this part of the market, and not surprised to find some don't play both formats (Toshiba backed the '-' standard so not surprising I guess they don't support the '+' standard).

At least the Yamaha states it plays '+' discs. Ultimately in this price bracket they're all pretty much the same in terms of their core components, there are very few generic MPEG decoders, deinterlacers, etc. available to system builders.

Are there any players with similar specs to any of the above that someone could recommend??

Though I am not really bothered about the HDMI connectivity, as my LCD doesnt have a HDMI or component connection (It has VGA), and my projector is only the Panny AE200, so the resolution wont make that much of a difference.

I definately want it to have:

Multiregion/RCE compatible (pref with a remote hack or firmware upgrade that doesnt affect other features badly)

    able to play dvdr/rw/+/- and DL+ / cdr/rw / mp3/jpeg dvd

divx (hopefully most versions up to latest)/xvid/mp3/dvd/SVCD (not bothered that much about SVCD/VCD

    RGB Scart (for my tv)

DD/DTS compatible out through Coaxial and optical (I usually use coaxial)

analog audio out too with composite video (as I connect this to a portable)

And would like it to have a great picture and sound through my lcd tv/ projector and amp

Can anyone help me find/or choose one of the above dvd players?? That would be the best sound and picture for my movie needs coupled up with my sony str de697 av reciever
And recommend some more that I may have missed (and where to buy them) :lease: OR would it be my best option to go with the Toshiba 350E?

    Thanks again

the pioneer dv-585 is highly recommended, costs a bit mor than you might have wanted, but has an excellent picture via component, plays sacd/dvda divx/xvid ect and the only format it does'nt support is dvd-ram afaik :)

    Nice one:smashin:

I have found it here (£99.99) multi region:

    http://www.superfi.co.uk/index.cfm/page/moreinfo-2.cfm/Product_ID/2353

And I have a PDA that I may be able to use this hack with if needed:

    http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.php?select=Pioneer+DV-585A

I'm not bothered about dvdram really

I'll look up some reviews on it.

I presume it can play dvd+&-r/rw's

If anyone knows of any places where I can buy this player cheaper :D Please let me know

And please keep the advice and recommendations coming

    thanks

    OK, Pioneer = Noisey :(

It crops up so much on here if you do a search. Some can't live with it and it's what's putting me off what looks like a superb machine.

So it seems that a 'majority' of Pioneers have noisey drives at this level. Looks like it is back finding another player (why is it so difficult):(

More help/advice and recommendations please people:thumbsup:

    tris

EDIT: Please remember to look through the list of possible players in my first post on this thread. I am updateing it daily

Even though I have both there I dont see much difference between the samsung 850 and 950?

It seems from the reviews here:

    http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

That the 850 out peforms the 950?

    Can anyone confirm this

EDIT2: The specs I need are 3rd post from the top of this thread :)

What would give the best picture and sound (RGB SCART & Component / coaxial) out of the:

    Toshiba/Samsung/Yamaha

Also been looking at the Samsung p750 and p355, is that a good idea? or should I stick with looking at the 850/950? Would they give a better picture / sound

Are there any around this price range with the specs I need that would be better for picture and sound than those mentioned above??
I do not want to risk having any noisey drives though

I have been compareing the two samsungs

    850
    http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/dvdplayer/hypervision/dvd_hd850xeu.asp?page=Specifications

    355
    http://www.samsung.com/uk/products/dvdplayer/slimline/dvd_p355xeu.asp?page=Specifications

It seems that the only difference is the HDMI (which I do not require)

Would it be best to opt for the samsung dvd-p355? Or is there a player that has the same specs as this with better sound and picture quality via RGB SCART and COMPONENT within £100?? As I can pick up the p355 for £45

I have had samsung players in the past (when they were still selling for over £100, and thought the pic and sound was great)

    Please share some thoughts

Im in the same boat as you I need a good component player and they just just dont seem to be around any more, I had a HK 2550S which has been a awesome player but its just recently decided to get real picky about the dvd's it reads.

Pioneers seem to get really good reviews but ive heard bad things about their noisey drives and ive had samsungs in the past and they tend to jam quite a bit.

It is really hard to try and buy a player, now I'd like one that plays all kinds of discs and divx.

I have a few mates with samsung players two of which have the samsung p355 and seem to be getting on with them quite well.

I'm not bothered about the HDMI output of the 850/950, as I would not accomidate it on my projector or lcd tv. But do want it to have the features mentioned a few posts up.

I have posted on various forums but cannot get enough advice.

The samsung I have my eyes on at the moment is this:

    http://www.pixmania.co.uk/uk/uk/201033/art/samsung/dvd-p355-dvd-divx-player.html

It has all the connections and compatability I need, and it is new-ish and the only difference from that to the 850 seems to be HDMI and £40

You'll have to let me know what how you get on, please feel free to ask questions here, they will probally help us both

Hi there. Why don't you hang on a bit longer, get your budget up to £120 and buy the Samsung HD950 from Richer Sounds?

Pixmania sell it for £112 including delivery I think although they currently have no stock.

EDIT: Sorry I just noticed your post regarding hifistore and the Pioneer 380 for £40. That's some deal :)

I haven't used their shop but I'm sure it would be alright

Digiuk also have them in stock for £112

I was recommended the Pioneer and found it for £40 and thought it was a pretty good deal myself :)It has everything I need (as I dont need HDMI) My only concern was trying to make it multiregion, I found this and got a little lost:

    http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.php?dvdplayer=pioneer+dv380&hits=50

I mean would I risk using the unofficial firmware? Or use my XDAIIi mobile/PDA and do it myself?

I would presume that a Pioneer would be better picture and sound?

i dont get it, am i missing something here?

you say you don't want to buy the pioneer DV-585 as some people say budget pioneers are noisy, but now you want to buy the cheapest one they sell

the 585 is a much better player than the 380.

After extensive searching and review reading (and finding one for sale on here) I have finally gone for the pioneer dv575a remembering your comments on the pioneer, I was destined to buy one, so even went and had a listen to a mates 585 and found no noise

Thanks for all the help and advice, I'll let you know how I get on with the player
