Right guys, I'm a little bit stuck as with what to do in regards to upgrading my speakers. The kit I'm using at the moment is a Tag CD20R, PA20R + 125M's with Mission 782SE speakers. Now I love my Missions they are great, but I'm looking at get a pair of front ported standmount speakers for around £1500 or a little extra.

What do I get, bear in mind they have to be front ported and pretty small but with a big sound? I need them to be fairly slim as well. The main types of music I listen to house, rnb, hip hop, jazz, drum 'n' bass, soul etc.

I'm very tempted with the B&W 805, but I need to see and hear them first.

Your input will be much appriciated.

    Hi Bhavik

I remember reading the following thread when I read your post:-

    http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=214768

it is mentioned in it that the 805s needs an powerful amp with a good reserve, but not too sure how much more than 125 (rated)-145W(typical) specs for the 125M's.

I hope the above link helps.

It was me that wrote one of the replies in that post, having tried a set of 805s with a TAG 100x5.

Do listen to them,in your own home with your amps....they are to my ears anyway, excellent speakers, and very clear without being harsh, but they do present a fairly difficult load, and had the 100x5 gasping fairly quickly, whereas with my own amps they're fine.

You could also take a listen to the Wilson benesch Arcs, which would fit your bill in many respects, and are similarly beautifully made....also maybe the AE I mkIII.

Listen to as many as you have the patience for,and don't be put off by people saying that B&Ws may sound hard with TAG etc....all of that is personal preference, and I certainly don't like a hard/forward sound, but use a mixture of TAG and Krell, which ought to be a good recipe for that if it was going to happen.

Nice one guys, I think I will check out the 805s somewhere. I'm gonna see if I can find the Wilson Benesch website as well.

ATC SCM 12? Not ported and a little lower in price at a K for the pair, but outstanding speakers :)

B&W 805's should be a good choice with the 125's, but you may find they need a sub to fill in the bottom register.

I have to admit that I was also surprised at the sound from the new 805S speakers, the treble is a bit "metallic" but in general a far better job has been made of them than the last 805N which was a bitter disapointment for anyone expecting a jump up from the original 805M (like me!). In fact they sound the same or actually better than the 805SIG range.. There is a lot of speakers out there at £1500 or so that demand a listen, the not so well known ones are also worth a go...
