I would like to get a DVD recorder, with built in Freeview and PVR capabilities, and also a hard disc. A nice to have but not essential would be PC connectivity of some kind whether it be Ethernet or USB.

The Topfield TF5800PVR looks perfect but it doesn't have the capability to record to DVD.

    Has anybody got any suggestions?

    :lease:

    Hi,
I asked the same question a month ago.
There is no product with this available...
Except the brand new Panasonic DMREH60D, RRP £499.
Our local dealer said he had 4 last week, which sold to people on the waiting list when they came in.

If you want to wait, other vendors (like Sony) will no doubt have products in time for Xmas.

And I was also recommended a used Tivo, which can then be networked to a PC via Ethernet and use the dvd record on the PC.

Have the best of both worlds. I intend using my new Topfield PVR plugged into my Panasonic E85 or E60. The pic on the Topfield is fantastic. This would fix all your requirements. Expensive way, I know but so are the prices of the new DVD recorders with Freeview.

Hi - the UK Panasonic 60 has freeview - DMR-EH60D. Advertised in Germany is a DMR-EH60EG-S for considerably less wonga. In the past analogue tuners were not compatible EU/UK (My Panasonic HS2 will not tune in Belgium!). So a question - are the digital tuners going to work in both EU and UK? Sorry if this question is a bit basic. Would love to save some cash and buy now from Germany - use it in Belgium for the moment, and then bring it back to the UK in 6 months and not have to sell it. I have googled for a while and found out nothing.....

Rik, I'm afraid that the EU version does not have a digital tuner, only analogue.

Just looked at the operating manual on Sony's website. No mention of Freeview - is that because the manual is an EU version?

Also, will it have Guide Plus+?

As far as I know it will not have PVR capabilities like watching one channel while recording another. It has only got one internal tuner.

The digital tuner in the EH60D might work in Germany - it depends on the carrier and modulation it can accept. Panasonic set top boxes for the UK market will work in the rest of Europe - I live in Finland and have seen Freeview branded Panasonic set top boxes on sale in shops here. I would expect the EH60D tuner to be similar so there is a good chance that it would work.
However EH60D has a PAL-I analog tuner, so that wouldn't work outside UK.
