I XBOX Media Center a viable solution, can it be bought in the UK?
Don't know if other MCE extenders will be available in the UK.
Xbox 360 due out end of the year.
Or, get a modded xbox and import a copy of the MCE Xbox extender software/remote kit, from a retailer on ebay. Works well
Thanks for the feedback. I have heard reports of problems with imported copies of MCE Xbox extender, due to the fact it doesn't support 16:9 or PAL. Can you confirm that this is not the case.
Well, I am using mine on a 4:3 CRT so not sure about the 16:9 thing, although there is not the zoom option that there is on my main MCE. I imagine you will have to stretch it using your tv display settings.
The PAL thing is not a problem, even though it is a US disc it still runs ok with the Xbox settings set to PAL, picture quality is very good by the way.
The Xbox does need to be modded to run the Media Center Extender application. It is region locked to NTSC & will not run on a stock PAL Xbox. One great advantage of modding is that the MCX can be loaded to the hard disk & you don't have to much around loading up the DVD every time that you want to use it.
What about the 16:9 thing, I am curious now? If you change the xbox settings to display at 16:9 will the MCE extender application then be in widescreen?
BTW - I thought I had to keep my xbox settings on NTSC to run the extender disc but was getting interlacing - so I changed the settings back to PAL, and the application still runs ok - no interlacing! The wonders of a modded xbox....
