It is not released for another week or so yet but as its a Fox title expect it to contain very little if no asian text and for the menus to be identical to the Region 2 release just like the Region 3 release of The Day After Tomorrow was.

What's the picture quality going to be like, though.
Generally you can rely on R1 DVDs to have reasonable PQ.
Don't know whether to plump for R1 or R3.
If there is a moderate improvement in PQ I'd go for R1.
Otherwise I'd take the DTS R3.

I received my R3 copy of I, Robot over a week ago from cdwow and it represents excellent value. You will be pleased to know that no asian text appears on the amray case or on either discs. Picture and sound quality is first rate.

    Hope this helps

I agree with the above. Only a very slight amount of chinese (?) on the reverse of the cover at bottom, but is very very small. No forced subtitles, everything in English

I also got mine last week and it is excellent quality, released by the same company that release The Day After Tomorrow so the quality of the discs and the packaging is first rate.

If it's a release by one of the major studios I wouldn't worry about buying R3 - usually the picture and sound quality is on par (identical) with the R1 release.
However note that sometimes changes are made to the menu languages, subtitles and on occassion soundtracks are dropped (e.g. Titian AE R3 does not have the DTS Track but an Asian soundtrack instead).

I am still not 100% certain on this but on 'Once upon a time in America' R3 some censorship (blurring) has been introduced for one of the scenes that is said not to be on the R1 release.

That can go both ways though and it more frequently happens that the region 3 has a DTS soundtrack that the region 1 does not (eg underworld region 3 does have DTS and the region 1 doesn't).

you could go for the R2 ltd edition tin from amazon, it's very nice :) but it will cost you £17.99 + p&p which is quite a lot more than the R3.

Got my R3 the other day from CD-WOW (who else!) Packaging & discs is so much better than my other R3 DVD's - Think R1 with R1 crossed out and R3 instead ...
As for the film I was half expecting another cheesey Will Smith outing but was pleasantly surprised - gr8 couple of hours entertainment plus loads of extras - a "keeper" for me
    Paul ;)
