Is it just me or is it possibly the most overlooked game in the history of gaming? Sure there are a few fans out there but I would love to see the saga conclude on the new Xbox or something...doubt it would happen...Shenmue 1 & 2 (dreamcast) and Kingdom Hearts are the only games I have ever played to completion more than once.

Shenmue is the most absorbing game I have ever played, Shenmue 2 is better but the subtitles make it less engrossing than the original...

At last another Shenmue fan, I agree it's the most over looked game ever. I remember when i got Shenmue i did'nt play anyother game for months, same with shenmue 2 but the subtitles did spoil it a little. I have Shenmue 2 on xbox now and would also like to see the story end on xbox 360.

it may well be sad but I still say "so close" like our hero did when playing the darts game in Shenmue...and I really do miss the little kitten just down the road from the house...my wife loved that cat!

    LOL

Folklift driving was class the race each morning before work was great, so many things were great in shenmue. Ie Darts, QTE Punch pads, Outrun etc. Also the massive fight at the end about 100 men was'nt it? Might have to dust the DC off and have a blast of this again. :smashin:

The only memories Shenmue brings back for me is really really really bad voice acting. Was just a tad to dull as well.

Two absolute superb games and a copy of each on the Dreamcast still sit proudly in my collection. Both look awesome via my projector connected by VGA as well.

They were a tad overlooked though and this was mainly due to them coming out on the DC IMO. Anyone who knows anything about gaming will recognise these as 2 of the best games ever made.

I also feel a spot of Shenmue action coming on :smashin: .

I wish I was in your position...although playing it for the third time should be great as I haven't played it for two years.

There's quite a few on Ebay - Shenmue 1 & 2 here, Shenmue 2 here. There are plenty others as well if you do a Shenmue search. To be honest ebay is the best place to get DC games, especially the rarer ones like the complete Shenmue sets. You'd be very lucky to find a decent copy in a gamestation or game. It may be worth a shout in the classifieds here though to see if anyone is willing to sell.

As CAS FAN said, I have plugged most of my DC gap from eBay. I’ve only got a few titles to get before I’ll be content!

Two great games. They originally planned to do about 7 of them completing the story but the premature end of the Dreamcst (And massive cost of making the games) put an end to that idea.

I still hope they will bring out some of the remaining games on the next gen consoles. Sega really does seem to have died a death I guess their sharp decline has meant the end of this great franchise.

I remember in shemue going out into the garden for the first time and looking down into the pond and thinking 'oh my god' the graphics and animation were absolutely gorgeous, in fact the graphics engine still today is amazing. The game really sucked me in, I was totally absorbed and living in japan with a stunning girlfriend and plenty of people to beat up. Mind you there was also a lot of wandering and some pretty tedious conversations. Hanging around looking for sailors in bars is also not my thing. Generally though an amazing game and I too must go through it again. Maybe its just me but I've completed all three games (thats 1xshenmue dc, 1xshenmue II dc and 1x shenmue II xbox) and everytime I completed them I felt sad rather than happy. It was like the end of something special. If anyone can tell me of any similar games that can fill the void I'd be interested as I've not seen any.

I don't think there is anything like Shenmue...maybe Fable on Xbox, but even that pales in comparison.

ICO has drawn me in as much as Shenmue but in a different way. I’ve never had a gaming experience like Shenmue and probably never will again (unless #3 gets released!)

I'm so pleased that there are other people out there who appreciate genuinely inventive and involving gaming! In a world of endless first-person shooters and dull car-collecting racers, Shenmue on DC was like poetry in motion. I remember standing in the garden, watching the koi carp in the pond while listening to the "clunk" of the water fountain (called a Shishi-Odoshi, apparently). It was such an immersive experience! Only ICO and Phantasy Star Online have had the same kind of effect.

I never played the Xbox version of the sequel. Is it still available anywhere?

    Skyav

Yes, it's pretty common - saw a copy for next to nothing 2nd hand the other day (can't remember where, probably blockbusters). I've got the DC version so have never dabbled.

Afaik the xbox version didn’t offer anything new over the DC version. I never had any incentive to play through it again on the Xbox, if you’ve already played Shenmue 2 then I’d save your money.

I'm a huge Shenmue fan. Loved the ending of the second game (Dreamcast version) as well, but overall the first one wins out - just - for that lovely Christmassy feeling.

I agree. Plus the first one had the benefit of, well, being first! When you first step into that Shenmue universe it's a truly magical experience. Trying to explore everything you can, even though it's not pushing the mission forward. :)

Which planet are you on mate?

There is about a 0.000001% chance of another Sega console.

Oh dear, oh dear, there are a lot of people out there with warped definitions of "amazing game".

Shenmue 1 & 2 were both resounding dull/boring/tiresome. The best bits of the game were when you could play ANOTHER game, i.e. space harrier or outrun.

I admit, it is an impressive technical achievement in terms of creating a game world with very limited technology. Shame they didn't spend more time actually making it enjoyable to play :(
