Have you gone into Settings and checked your volume limit?

I'm having the reverse problem with my iPod Touch - sometimes when I plug my earphones in, the volume is fine, other times it's far too loud, even on the very lowest setting. Think I might have a dodgy headphone socket.

cant see how you can get it onto an ipod without going thru a mac or pc first - so Im not convinced that will work on ipod's connected to pc's

Be careful, got mysekf a nice case of tinnitus by having volume too loud, make sure your just not drowning out background noise.

If you are try getting some sound isolating earphones and you'll be happy with lower volumes.
