I'm stuck trying to get rid of a blurring effect on my plasma when there are panning shots,it seems to mainly effect peoples faces, aside from this gripe the picture quality is amazing and the clearest i have seen,i'm just pulling my hair out messing about with contrast etc.

    Someone please help :lease:

All of my connections are via rgb scart through a 5 way vivanco switch box, just wondered if component or vga inputs would improve the smearing problem,or if my settings are way out lol.
Don't suppose you could put your settings on here for me to try.
    Good link tho cheers

I use RGB scart for Sky and component for DVD.

As for my settings, the 5300 doesn't have as many options as the 5200 so you'll be better off with the settings in the Hitachi Thread rather than mine.

    Pual

What dvd player are you using becuase that is an important variable and also running your dvd via component rather then low quality vivanco video switching on RGB will make a lot of difference.

it's just a cheap philips dvd player that only has scart output but the picture quality on dvd is brilliant, even through the vivanco switching box,i wouldn't call £70 for some scart sockets cheap though lol (luckily sevenoaks put it in free with the tv)it's just the sky picture that suffers the blurring faces problem, dvd, xbox and ps2 are all as good as they will get with a scart connection.

Sorry Pual my apoligies its not the range of vivanco i was thinking but now you mension it sky with quite a few of the broadcasts it can look a little blocky around flesh tones but with the combo you have its slightly expected although i beleive that the hitachi is one of the best at its price on the market and they sell well on picture abilty. You get what you pay for and to get a perfect image the Pioneer,Fujitsu and panasonic will almost do that but as i say its more money.
I do like the hitachi though its nice!
Funny you should tell me that 7oaks sold you those scarts :D :D :D :D

Im blaming this blocking and blur you get on sky becuase its usual that everything but the sky will look great sometimes and its just to do mainly with the broadcast quality, Newer material tends to be less of a broblem but things like the bill and other older material are the worst.
As good as the plasma is with DVD a poor signal going into this particular model can almost look slightly worse. If you have Sky get the sky plus box it tends to have slightly better picure quality.

I've got a plan for the future involving a dvi equipped dvd recorder that can upscale to 1080i and hopefully run everything through that lol...possibly wishful thinking on my part,i looked at the panasonic plasma's but they have no dvi input and are a fairly low res screen although the pq was pretty good and possibly on par with the hitachi the lack of removable speakers didn't help it's case lol. And £1895 for the hitachi with a 5 year gaurantee and the free scart switcher helped lol.

I think you made a good choice Pual
The 1080i should be impressive aslong as it can read a clean image aswell as having the huge data output

thats my theory too lol,i have seen a 42" hitachi panel being fed by a high def pc and it looked amazing with everything scaled up properly, even stood up close to it you couldn't see any artifacts it was crystal clear, which is why i'm hoping someone will bring a recorder out soon with this feature (and the misses wont let me put a pc in the front room lol)
