I need an external hard drive

I've just bought a new pc and need to get all my old crap off the old one.

I need an external hard drive to store everything on.

There's so many of them.

Can anybody point me in the right direction for a reasonably priced good quality one?

You could install your old hard disk in the new pc temporarily and just copy stuff across.

I always use Seagate drives. They can be pricey but are very reliable.

No I couldn't. This is beyond my capabilities.

have you got esata or firewire on the back of your pc,
if so i'd recommend you go for one which has fw400/fw800 or esata,
or a combo drive,

if you are never going to use the drive to transfer big files(5GB +),
then USB2 is ok.....

I will check that out.

So you don't advise moving files over 5gb?

Can't I just transfer big folders of around 40gb without problems??

Its the time it will take over USB2 which is the problem for me,
in the past when i had a usb2 external drive,
i used to take it apart and plug it direct onto the motherboard so the transfer only took half the time,

i dont advice this,
as it will void your warranty....

for a 40gb file i find it to be faster if i sent 5-10gb at a time rather then the whole 40gb at one time...
