Are their any Panasonic dvd recorders out there that play HD dvd`s along with DivX ?

I can`t say i am well up on dvd recorders or players, ideally i want to keep the same make as my tv which is a Panasonic viera but if not then it will have to be another brand, i am after one in silver.

for starters there are very few HD players on the market to start with

and do you want it to play HD/DVD or BLUERAY/DVD ? ( or both ? - unlikely to find these )

with anything you do find then divx playback would be a real addon bonus and in any case they arent cheap to start with

ps:- one I found that is panasonic says this

The DMP-BD10 will output all these hi-def formats when you stick a Blu-ray Disc in the tray

Compare prices : Panasonic DMP-BD10
RecordableNo, DVD-Audio More product info
Price range: £345 - £860.42

so seems to be Blueray and not HD and cannot see divx on it

Forgive me for sounding a bit thick on this subject as i have not got into the blueray area yet. Are Blueray discs the same size as normal dvd discs ?

The reason i ask this is do you think at some point in the near future that we will get a dvd recorder that plays blueray and HD discs ?

Its just i don`t want lots of electronic boxes all over the place as the cables will be everywhere, surely in this day and age that at least one leadining manufacturer will come up with a system that is a dvd recorder and plays blueray and HD discs along with DivX etc.

This seems quite a good deal even though its just a player but its a blueray player, pitty its not silver.

all the disks are the same size ( apart from the mini size versions

but you asked about HD dvd and there are 2 types of those , half the manufacturers went for blueray DVD and the others for HDDVD so they are incompatible just like the old betamax and vhs

there has been talk of combined players but not sure if any exist in the uk as yet , too early to tell really

I suppose eventually we will get a dual standard that plays all sorts , but I doubt it will happens for a year or two as yet as these technologies are still in their infancy

I was trying to answer what you asked based on your words , but not many ppl will have experience of these boxes yet , and your chosen brand seems to be in the blueray camp , which is where sony are with the playstation 3

no divx on that player , and only blueray playback , no hd-dvd playback

read through this _http://www.timefordvd.com/tutorial/HDDVDTutorial.shtml

Panasonic choose to back the BluRay format so are only making that format of player not HD-DVD, also as far as I am aware no one makes a combined DVD Recorder and HD-DVD or BluRay player.

DivX playback is not on any UK DVD Recorders from Panasonic, it is only available on one player in the UK.

Hope that helps.

Yeh unfortunatley that one doesn`t have HD playback.

Any ideas why their is such a huge price difference between these 2 as they both seem the same models, i found it in silver.

No sorry not sure why, there seems to be big price differences depending on the retailer.

The actual price from Panasonic for the DMP-BD10EG-S is £1296.99.

Hope thats of some use.

I think the price may be due to 'the internet revolution'... no staff to pay, no big rents for a fancy high street shop, etc, etc... just a massive wharehouse to store stuff!!

the only other reason I can think is that they buy by the thousands, and so can sell 'at cost' ...

combined players are available, you can even get a bluray recorder/HDDVD player for your PC!

So if you want it NOW, see this link.....
