Even though I work with the equipment day in and day out (not the xbox hd drive but the tosh) unfortunately I'm so busy I generally don't have the time to appreciate every little change between hd dvd and upscaled.

Now I have just got myself an xbox hd dvd drive, bought the last samurai, set it up, and compared an upscaled version of the film in my dvd2910. First impression was...... B ugger, a £130 hd drive has a better picture quality than my £600 dvd player! there was a massive change, little detail changes, colour to name a few. There was still a little noise, not much but then again this is a budget hd dvd drive. I'll probably nab from work an HDE1 or the X1 and compare between them and the xbox drive. I have jarhead and children of men on the way and I want to compare these also.

One worrying thing though. CD playback isn't an issue as I use my audiolab for that, however I could help but be left with the feeling that the hd dvd drive delivered a crisper, more detailed sound, maybe not as full and exciting as the denon, but very very good for a £130 hd drive.

Still think its early days (I'm swinging towards hd dvd for quite a few reasons) but very good stuff so far.

I'm not really that interested with in blu ray. In all reality which ever way the porn industry will swing towards will be the way the format will go.

Anyway just a quick 5 minutes to say my thoughts on the little drive, that has put a smile on my face, but also made me a little dissapointed with my denon. All we need now are the the higher end companies to take the plunge and see what they come up with, especially in the audio department. Combine that detail with a full, rich sound and we could be on to a winner (especially when we start to have true dd and dts hd amplifiers emerge :lease: !!)

Don't get too hopeful for advanced CODEC processor/receiver decoding. The "advanced" authoring on HD DVD doesn't permit it, and BR could easily take the same route come Octover 2007.

I have a Denon 2900 and the Toshiba picture leaves it behind (especially in the video noise department.)

The Toshiba is actually a lot of player for the money.
