    Hi All

I am currently with BE. I am very happy with them but i am shortly moving home to a non LLU area. BE have checked the postcode and they say they cannot provide me with service.

I was under the impression that even if they cannot provide a LLU service they could provide an upto 8mb service with the same non throttling ? am i wrong ?

The reason i ask is i use a device called slingbox for my TV viewing. I dont use p2p or anything but i need a steady connection with no throttling or traffic shaping.

I have read various posts on the forum and browsed through a lot of providers but none of them seem to offer anywhere near the usage i need !

can anyone give me an idea ?

BE only provide LLU services. O2 who own them provide both LLU & BT Wholesale based services but you will not get the usage you want out of any normal priced BT Wholesale based service.

How about Sky/UK Online LLU at your new exchange? They offer truly unlimited services.

Otherwise the only option will be paying well over the odds for a truly unlimited BT Wholesale service. i.e £80/month & up.

thanks, i have checked with samknows and the LLU presence is -

    C&W/Bulldog enabled 2005
    Sky/Easynet enabled 2003
    Tiscali enabled 2008

i was not aware that sky offer such a service ?, do you think sky would not throttle me ?

    thanks for your help !

Not on the max service. No throttling/shaping, no peak time slow down & truly unlimited. In fact it doesnt even have an FUP. BE has an FUP although I've never heard of it being enforced.

UK Online are owned by Sky and offer a similar service if you dont have/want Sky TV but they are more expensive, however there are some perks not available with Sky.

IDnet are a good ISP but 600 GB per month on IDnet is going to cost at least £80 per month (vs £10/month on Sky).

    No brainer.

Thats what I was trying to work out....thats 20Gb/day meaning if purely downloading, you need a consistant 300k/sec (1Gb/hr) download 24/7.

    Hhaaahhhaa very funny.....not

600gb montly usage is unheard of. Most I've done in a month is around the 200gb mark. And that was on the heavy side of things.

600GB is about 20GB a day and that's about 1.5 hours of HD content streaming. If he is watching full 1080p content i would imagine that's potentially achievable. i thik that slingshot thing is suppose to do that?

Potentially achievable? 20Gb in 1.5 hrs? So, approx 12Gb/hr, or 3.6Mb/sec? Yeah, i'd like a connection capable of that......

600gb was an estimate - my slingbox streams at 4000kbps at 720p i measured an hour and it came to 1.8gb.

i dont currently have sky so i use slingbox as my only source of tv !
