Our 8 year old Grundig TV broke so my parents want to buy a fancy new TV to replace it. I tried convincing them to get a standard 36" toshiba CRT because they are still supposed to have the best quality. but they want something fancy. So i've taken them round the shops, shown them plasma, LCD and projector screens. they seem to have a set maximum budget of £1500. they favour the plasmas cos it looks nice, and is bigger than the LCD and within budget for a big TV. I prefer the LCD but it costs too much for 37" and above (which is what we want). And i have doubts about the plasmas cos the cheap ones just don't look right to me. and also I've been reading that it lacks HDTV for the future apps, that the light degrades gradually with time and it is the worst picture of the 3 (not saying its bad) 3rd option is an LCD rear projector like the Sony 50" KF50SX100 for about £1500. but that doesn't have HDTV and lacks component in. But its BIG. which looks cool. but it does look very faded and not vibrant like all projector screens. the other option is just to buy a cheapish (650-700) Rear projector to bide us some time so LCD TV's drop in price and improve in quality (assuming they do), and in 2-3 years buy those. if thats a good idea, which screens are good? any ones with HDTV, progressive scan etc? So I can't decide. for £1500 for a fancy looking screen that also has a decent enough display, what would you recommend?
