The Kenwood KRF-V5050DS is discontinued (bad choice, anyway) so I have to choose from the following three to power my FS2 AV system...

    Onkyo TX DS494 (has PLII)
    Sony STR DE475 (awesome price)
Sony STR SL7 (slim and sexy amp)

These are my only choices, all silver and aestheticially-appropiate!

Please throw out your opinions right now as I've only got a while to decide!

I´d go for the Onyko, but only because I´m not keen on Sony amps/receiver.

The Onkyo is better for music & its got PL2 as you mention, which is a must nowadays.

But in the end choose what you like, not what others tell you!!

Any other opinions?? Anything that would stop me using the Onkyo with the FS2s?

I know you haven't mentioned them yet but have you considered the Marantz SR4200 and SR5200 - I got the former (only turned down the SR5200) to power my on-order FS2s and am pretty confident I made the right choice in the end. Sure it's not silver, but seems to be a better received amp than any of those you mentioned and anyway the gold version looks silver enough :)

    Regards,
    DDC

PS Just out of interest, where did you get your FS2's from and how much?

I did consider the Marantz amps but they just look TOO big and bulky to us. Then again, even this Onykyo is big piece of solid! :D

I bought the FS2 AV (silver set) from Jason @ HifiJunkies.co.uk for a special price of £430 (they sell it for £439) and should get it tomorrow.

If I don't get much feedback on these choices I may just go ahead and purchase the Onkyo reciever from the same place. Then again, the STR SL7 is so slim and cute!

not sure why you are restricting yourself to the Sonys & Onkyo... (colour?) but anyway...

I've had a trusted Sony 925 for 2-3 years, just changed recently to a Denon 2802... so not 100% Sony biased.

Sony amps apart from an odd one or two, do not have a good reputation for stereo music & cds, and with good reason... they arent good with this. excellent for home cinema though.

I'd have to go with the Onkyo... good with both audio and DVDs.
in particular, because its got Dolby Prologic II.. makes a huge huge difference to any old videos and terrestrial TV... almost as good as 5.1 with a good film on sky movies.

Okay... this is gonna be hard choice.. I can go for a huge "mum-unfriendly" (it's going in my parent's best room) Pro-Logic II capable Onkyo, or a slim and sleek silver Sony reciever that looks good and pleases the family...

Hmmm... I'll definately have to sleep on it!

Appreciate any last minute replies... I'm still leaning towards the Onkyo but I could do with some more feedback! ;)

was it just colour that restricts you to the Onkyo & Sonys?
(and against Marantz because they are really big & ugly looking).

the Onkyo 494 is a better comparable model than the Sony 475..
plus having Dolby Prologic II is a huge plus point.

really does make a difference to your viewing habits...

old prologic is okay but a bit flat, completely different from a dvd syle "experience"...

dpII is at times very close to dd5.1... , and has actually stopped me buying a few films recently and just watching them on Sky Movies widescreen instead.

my opinion - go with the Onkyo.

is an Onkyo 575(?) too much?

a few places are listing this as between £330-350 approx.

try www.qed-uk.com for example... about £353.

if you go the Denon route, have a look on pricerunner.com

they have a site coming up with the Denon 1602 for £240,
and the 1802 for £300. good prices.

    http://www.go2camcorder.co.uk

never heard of them before, but they have good reviews on pricerunner.

I actually just ordered the Denon 1602 from HifiJunkies.co.uk for £270! Not the cheapest price, but still a good deal by the looks of it. :D

Let's hope I don't have any problems this time!

So which one did you go for???

I think that particular model is very hard to get hold of in the UK? You may to have to wait a while...

I got the Denon 1602 with my Mission FS2 AV set yesterday. Thing is, I can't be setting anything up until I get a stand to put all the kit on!
Which model? The Sony slimline? You're right, but it is available as part of package (with speakers and sub) so I could have just sold the rest of it and kept the amp.

    P.S. Don't I know you "Pyara"????
