DHas anyone got this firmware update?

    DRV 3-16-0

    ESS 9104-3

Are there any problems with this update that I should know about? If this is a new one (it is to me and I only got it today from my dealer 06/11/03)? Let me know so that I can share...

    I await your responses

    ESS 9104-4
    DRV 6200-2

Is the very latest driver. It is not multiregion but PAL progressive is enabled. I've not encountered any problems at all with this firmware. 9104-3 is awful. Lots of problems with the picture breaking up, freezing, sluggish control e.t.c. Avoid like the plague.

If you hunt about a bit on the web you might just find it. Try searching for 'Denon firmware' and see what comes to light. Google is a very good search engine to use.

just does not seem to be anything out there, I have been looking around for the past couple of months, aswell as looking on here too. I guess that your machine already had this on it when you bought it

No. I have an official Denon Pal progressive upgrade disk for the 2800 MKII, 3800 and DVD A1. The same disk is used for each different machine. Each machine just loads their required file and bingo. Updated firmware.

A bit awkward robjohn. File size is 13mb. It would probably take me about 4 hours to send with my dial up connection! Also might upset Denon a bit, distributing their firmware all over the place. Not to mention the migthy 'spectre' the all seeing eye of this forum. I know he's got a lot of friends at Denon. Also if I do it for one everybody will want a copy and unfortunately I just don't have the free time available.

one more question can you damage the player by updating the player too many times?

No you cannot damage the player by upgrading the firmware. The player only loads the file that is appropriate but its quite possible that newer firmware may have more problems than the version already installed. Such as 9104-3, the earlier version 6098 is much better. Why not contact the company selling the firmware discs and ask them what version it is before parting with your hard earned cash. If they don't know then don't buy.

Hmmm not entirely true - I have heard of quite a few 3800 owners who had to return their player to Denon as the firmware update left their machines in a non-working position...

Best advice is try to get your dealer to do it for you, that way they take the risk...If you DO do it yourself (which IS easy) you just have to accept that if things go wrong that you will have to pay Denon to reinstate the original firmware...

Quote from the Denon-DVD 3800 Unofficial FAQ kind of sums it up:

    Cheers

    JJ

I probably should have added that it is best to have a known working copy of your machines firmware as well as your new intended update. That way if anything goes wrong you can reflash your machine with the original firmware and everything should now be back to normal, but as 'Jasonjo' says if you are unsure what you are doing or don't want to take the risk then get your dealer to do it for you.

I've seen some guy selling copies of Denon firmware upgrade discs on E-bay for £10. He says its the latest version, although he doesn't say what version that is. Surely this can't be legal?

If someone could PM me with the web site that's selling the Denon firmware update disc mentioned previously, I would appreciate it.

    Thanks.

    Hi Ronak-T

You can download it free of charge from 'afdigitale.it' once you enter the site click on 'download', then 'firmware' and finally 'dvd video' now choose the firmware for your player from the list. The firmware is PAL progressive and multi-region enabled. I think the version on this site is ESS 9104-3, DRV 6200-2. Be carefull as this firmware does have some issues as I've mentioned above such as picture breakup, freezing, lip synch e.t.c. The advantage of having your machine multi-region enabled wears pretty thin after a while when these problems keep on popping up. In my opinion the earlier firmware ESS 6098, DRV 6200 is much better. This only suffers from the occasional freeze. This firmware is also PAL progressive enabled and multi-region enabled. The best firmware of the bunch by far is the newest version ESS 9104-4, DRV 6200-2. I haven't found any issues with this so far. Only problem is that it isn't multi-region, although PAL progressive is enabled. I hope that helps you out.

So basically, if you want a reliable version of the firmware, you're gonna have to make do with PAL prog only, and not multi-region?

Also, is it a case of burning these files onto a CD-R and then loading the CD in the player, or do you have do do anything else?

    Thanks,

    Ronak.

Yes, to both of your questions. Although firmware ESS 6098 isn't too bad.
