You may also want to check out the Denon 1906. You can get this for around the £270-280 online. Of course, if you can find a local retailer to demo your shortlist, then even better.

I was looking into this recently and had the Denon 1906, Pioneer VSX-915 and CA Azur 540R on my shortlist. The Denon just pipped the others to the post, althought I don't think you'll go too far wrong with any of these. A friend of mine has a Denon receiver and I really like the sound of their kit. I'm using it for 90% movies, so this was more important than it's music performance.

Just out of interest how did you rate the music performance of the 1906?

My opinion: get the CA540r (wait for the revised version - out soon).

BUT - if you do decide to go for the 1906, then don't pair it with hard to drive speakers (low impedance - low sensitivity). It's not a bad amp but lacks power with picky speakers.
