I have an old 32" Philips W/S TV and a Sony VW11HT projector which fires on to a 6ft pull-down Stewart Greyhawk screen. The screen pulls down in front of the TV, so you'd think I have the perfect set up? well... why don't I use the projector more than I do? You see, my problem is that the perfect listening postition happens to be about 5 feet infront of the TV. So, when I'm using the projector I move further back... which in turn ruins the sound (yes, I adjust the amps delay settings), and I'm getting fed up with the fan noise which spoils low level listening at night. Also, the VW11 is probably showing its age a bit and I'm getting frustrated with limited shadow detail and black level, but most of all the dreaded fan noise. So, should I: - trade the lot in and get a Panasonic 42" plasma which would be great for my current circumstances - upgrade the projector for something quieter with better contrast and shadow detail or, buy a smaller screen (possibly electric) which would allow me to sit nearer the ideal listening position and concentrate the light from the projector over a smaller area? Is there any such thing as a near silent running projector? Are Plasma's silent? I've had my VW11 for 2 years and only clocked up 350 hours, so something's not right!
