Probably irrelevant in these forums but I just had a little browse at Amazon's website and they are selling a DVD player 'made' by ...... YAMADA ........ !
I feel a law suit coming on!

Suppose you're joking, but just in case you're not, most of these Japanese/Chinese manufacturer brand names are actually surnames.

I looked at the specs and one of them plays MPEG4!
Does anybody know what that means?

Mpeg 4 has superior compression i.e. it makes the size of the file smaller but at a cost of more onscreen artifacts and blocking.

However a good mpeg 4 compressed movie can be near dvd quality and fit on a single cdr. Ideal for downloading with broadband.

I had a film on the pc in mpeg4 just as good as the dvd player.Could never get it to work on a cd ,something to do with the surround encoding on it i think.
