Thought I would share this with everyone as I am somewhat proud.

The BA plane that crashed on Thursday was due to be the one that was taking myself and a colleague to Beijing. This meant that we were already on our way to the airport when the incident occured.

So by a twist of fate I was there, at the airport, with my camera. Sadly all I had on me was my 24-70 but still managed to get the photo below and it was the first photo we at Getty Images sent out. And even better, it made the front page of BBC News.

I'll go back to my day job of Events Manager now ...

Wow inkinoo -must be crazy to think you were going to be on that flight.

Congrats on the photo though - nicely captured.

I was driving past it today myself and took some quick photos. Not great by any means but show the cleanup activities going on.

Amazing to see how close to the road it was and where it skidded along.

The area was very busy today with many photographers and onlookers so took some photos of them too because they looked interesting .......

Didn't get any extra money; as I am staff it is covered under the same contract as our editorial photographers.

I could have sent it in via Scoopt and got some cash for it but given I sent in the first two Getty photos it got widely used and that's far better for me than a few hundred pounds.

I work in IT section for a large media company.

About 5 years ago, there was one helluva gale in London. I was on my way into work, when I saw a massive tree had fallen onto a parked Porsche Boxster in Highgate Village, North London. I therefore nipped back home & got my little Canon camera (the size of a brick & an amazing 1 Mega Pixel!). I then returned to the scene & rattled off about 5 shots before the battery died! (the camera wused to have a terrible drain on its battery!)

When I got into work I rang our editorial pictures desk & explained what photos I'd just taken. I guess it was a fairly quiet news day as they asked how much I wanted, at the time I didn't think the photo has much worth, so I said "listen I don't want any money, just put the picture on the picture service/wires & credit my name against it".

Well, the next day the image was used in just about all the popular daily national newspapers .....with the photo taking up a half page photo in The Sun alone! (+ major websites, BBC, Sky etc)! Worse still they'd simply used my company's name as the credit - talk about feeling cheated!

In the end, after kicking up a lot of fuss I got £150 for the picture - not fantastic (especially bearing in mind the take up!), but better than a poke in the eye. Here's the photo (ironically, lifted from someone's website!).....

I think had the car involved had just been say a Citroen Picasso, there'd not have been a lot of interest, but the Porsche Boxster probably gave it more appeal!
