    Got it then Matt!

What're you hooking up to it?

Chris, there is something definitely wrong with yours. The picture on progressive with the PP2 on should be pristine, providing the source is good. I watched a freebie DVD the other day and it was horrendous. You're having trouble with all of yours, so get it exchanged immediately.

    Have fun Matt!

hope u like the tv, i love mine so much.
i was dissapointed at first (see thread) but after hours spent on the settings i now truly have an imaculate picture (from good source pictures)from my telewest box and dvd (rgb only though).

i used to have a toshiba 36pw48 crt and that was excellent but i really have to say that the 9986 picture quaility has blown it away and i never thought i'd say that.

if u have problems with the settings looked at previous threads, i got some help from jimsan who gave me the best settings and i have to say he was spot on.

apart from the problem i am currently having i'm amazed with this set, pictures, looks, ambilight are all spot on.

    hope u enjoyl

Well... just finished setting it all up..

Got everything connected to it one way or another... for now.

JVC HD40000 D-Vhs Player (component to DVI, eventually with switcher unit)
Panasonic S97 (due in, space left! HDMI to DVI then switcher unit when i get it)
Pioneer 656A DVD Player (RGB Scart Ext 1)
CD+G Player (Composite Ext 3 switched)
Game Cube (Composite Ext 3 switched)
    PC (S-Vhs Out Ext 3)
Panasonic E30 DVD Recorder (Ext 2 and RF)
Sky Digital (thru DVD Recorder Ext 2 and RF)
Panasonic NV HS 830 S/Vhs Player (RF)

    Phew!

So... The first thing I had to do was watch and compare, D-VHS and DVD.
I have "Theres Something About Mary" on D-VHS (component) and on DVD (RGB)...

Both looked great... but of course the D-VHS won hands down at (1080i)... I was under the impression that the D-VHS player would output 720p - but the tv just said PICTURE NOT AVAILABLE or something to that effect.

Tried GameCube, wouldnt let me view it in 60hz, just 50hz. Just composite tho... where (can i get a lead) and what is the DIGITAL output on the GameCube???

CD+G not to bothered about... PC not to bothered about...
Ambi Light... mmm... Pixel Plus 2... looks to "digital" and "noisy" for me... but im viewing it quite close (end of my bed, 3m away)...

Just waiting on the Panny S97 dvd player to upscale some dvds and use the HDMI lead... :) Overall very happy... the tv just needed to have a separate DVI and Component input, to save me £200ish on a switcher unit! Also are there any good direct component to dvi leads?

    Thanks all!

    Matt,

Check your settings. If the picture is 'noisy' then the source probably is. Turn the DNR up to Medium (or max!). Sharpness back to 2 or 3. Picture should look OK from 3m unless the input really is crummy...

If the TV says that the the picture format is unavailable then your D-VHS isn't ouputting a progressive signal. Have a look and see if you can change that in the D-VHS's settings. The 720p may be even better than the 1080i. Then again.....

Component to DVI leads don't seem to exist. Yet. You still have to go Component/VGA/DVI.
    )
    Fun, isn't it?

    Jimmy
