Well I have given up looking, reading this is good this is bad, buy this buy that. It has driven me and my wife mad.
Was set on the philips 998 because everyone give it a glowing report. Then showrooms say no u need a plasma, get a panasonic, this is good this is crap. Then I see what I feel was a stunning hitachi 42pd5200. Looked in the forum, this is good this is crap thats better pictures good, pictures crap.

Go back to the showroom spent 2hrs, just couldnt make my mind up so what did i do?

Well my opinion is 99% of the people on the forum rate the philips 998 so I bought it as simple as that.

SO YOU ALL BETTER BE RIGHT

Now I managed to get a good price of £1900 but do have to wait a week

Oh well at leasti can just read the manual.

Just goes to show what a trip down down Cloud-Judgement Avenue can do to you when you get so many opinions..........

Hopefully you've made the right decision by trusting the most valid opinion....your own.

    Enjoy.

I have just bought one and in my opinion the PQ is in a league of its own when compared to other LCD sets.

Got a Sony 26"HG2 as well, the pictures on this are awesome, but the Philips just takes T.V to a new level with their spot on picture processing.

A good choice mate, you won't be dissapointed :)

I have been going through the same pain...initially wanted a plasma and had my mind set on the panny 42" PHD7...then I find out this has issues with being HDTV ready...then I start looking at LCDs and there too I get lots of conflicting views.

So, I have decided to try and get the best of both worlds....I bought a Sharp LS26GA3E to serve as an interim solution (my CRT gave up on me) and I will wait for the "big 'un" 42" panny plasma when they release their series 8 panels later in the year.

In certain instances (a majority of PQ comparisons) I would agree with you.....

But before you buy, do yourself a favour and audition the Philips 9986 witrh decent source material....... it will blow you away and I am certain that you would be tempted, especially as its future proof too :)
