I think the hard drive is bu99£rd. Anybody know how much they chargs to repair? Or do I claim off my home insurance for a new one? It's a 40gbt IHP140. If they don't still make it, what's the alternative?

My son dropped his and i-river replaced it free (did not tell them that he had dropped it of course). Try e-mailing them and explain that it doesn't work and see that what they say.

Might be worth taking the lid of the case off and making sure the HDD connector is still firmly attached. If you're lucky it isn't and re-attaching the cable will bring it back to life.

Of course U could try and RMA it first as suggested above.

Is the case easy to get apart?

I haven't tried it myself, but there are lots of people doing it to either fix similar problems, modify their player [battery/HDD upgrades], or just to see what it looks like. Do a search on the forums at MisticRiver: http://www.misticriver.net

I have seen posts on taking the H140 apart over there, by all accounts it looks quite straightforward.
