I have a analogue NTL cable box and when I put it on to progressive scan the picture flickers like it's a 50hz TV, plus the same happens with my DVD as well and I am using component leads with that?

Does your DVD support PS?? and does it support NTSC and Pal PS?? Unless you are using a converter i doubt Ntl analogue can output PS. WHat DVD player are you using, PS you might neeed to use sync on composite try connecting the composite lead as well.

The Toshiba 520 is NTSC Progressive only. Make sure you have the switch on the back of it set to Progressive and you should be able to toggle it between Interlaced & Progressive via the remote control.

Your TV should also have it's own Progressive Scan mode for use with an interlaced source from dvds but you may see some flicker as it's usually still 50hz for PAL and 60hz for NTSC (R1 dvds etc).

I assume you have the latest Toshiba ZP38P model? Not 100% sure if the PS mode on that TV works with ALL interlaced sources i.e NTL etc. My JVC's Movie Theatre Mode (Prog.Scan) only works with dvd's.
