I want a DVD player which has the following

    DTS
    Progressive scan
    DivX
    Multi-region
    Optical audio out

I don't want to spend much as I will upgrade to HD/blu-ray soon.

I've looked at the Pioneer DV-380 but it doesn't have optical out.
I've looked at the DV-585 which is more than I wanted to spend but seems to have issues with making it multi-region.
I've looked at a Phillips one which has PRog scan and Divx but no DTS

I've got the Toshiba 52" DLP and need optical out to connect it to my sony DAVS 800.

What else can I consider ?

    thanks in anticipation.

Many Panasonics do all of that except Divx

I use the Sony Davs 800 as my DVD/AV amp.

I'll need to check back and see if the Phillips has optical audio out (i don't think it did)

    DivX is a must.

Is there not problems making Pans multi-region - I thought they had to be hardware fixes ?

If it has an optical out it will do DTS. I have the Philips DVP5900 which doesn't say DTS in the specs but it does do it through it's digital audio out; unfortunately for you this model only has coaxial out, not optical.

I believe the Samsung HD850 and HD950 meet all of these requirements.

The philips 5100 does all if it (but not 100% sure about the optical out but def have digital coxal out). Multiregion is a remote hack. I got one for the divx playback and can't complain.

Just a quick update incase anyone is in the same boat.

I got the DV-585 from the link above and am absolutely delighted with it.

I link it to my DAVS with an optical audio cable and connect it to my Toshiba 52 by component video cables.

The result is stunning. I watched all the LOTR dvds at the weekend and the picture was breathtaking.

Thanks to all those who answered, I can highly recommend this player.
