I may be picking up my LCD on monday night, but i am hving second thought's.
The price i am paying is £1620.

The thing is how much better is the Panny Viera 37".
I have heard glowing reports on these set's and £400 might not be as bad as i first thought.

However i see that there is not as good a resolution as the LCD.

How does the Panny fair with Terrestrial and DVD playback compared to CRT.
I am sure i can change my mind before i pick it up on Monday.

    Your thought's please.

pixels do not matter that much for video...... have a look at the thread by "theferiu" i have never met a disapointed veira owner but known a fair few who have returned 30" 32"LCD's for 37" Veira

It works for me  :smashin:

Even after two months viewing I'm still well chuffed with this TV. :) All I would say is that you must view before buying. Some people can see a slight flicker with Panny's 6th gen panel, i.e. Viera and PW6, however, most people can't.

If you do a search on this section on either Viera or PE30 it should throw up lots of posts as there are quite a few Viera owners that post here.

Here is the link that Horny mentioned about Thierfeu's experiences:

Thanks for that DH and Steve.

So DVD's are gonna be as good or better than my old 5 year old Sony. ?
Terrestrial T.V. could be not as good.

Don't forget that i am Cable and not Sky.
Most of Cable is spot on at the minute on my CRT.

I am just really worried that i am gonna end up with a lesser picture on something that cost's £1500 more.
    Know what i mean. :)

Steve. Thanks for that review mate. Much needed.

Cable is a tricky issue and picture quality is more a post code lottery, i.e. more luck than judgement. I have read a few postings where people have been disappointed at their cable feed into their plasmas and others more than happy, thankfully I fall into the latter category. I read somewhere that if there are alot of subscribers on a street taking of a single feed then their PQ can suffer when compared to a street where only a few people are subscribed to cable. I can only assume that most people on my street have Sky or Freeview and not Cable as I find my cable viewing really great on the standard channels and only becomes a bit ropey on low bitrate channels like most of the shopping channels or stuff like FTN etc.

Another thing i have just measured.
Our room is not very wide. It's actually not the best room for veiwing TV in to start with as we have to have our TV on a sort of fire Surround in a corner.
I measured from the wall to the viewing area. That being 2.8ish :) metres. Depending on if i am lying down or sitting up
If i need a stand, that will probably bring it down to 2.5 metres.
Will both of these be too close.??

    Cheers Jed

Dimensions as from Panny's Website for the 37" Viera:
    http://www.panasonic.co.uk/plasma-tv/th37pe30b/index.htm

    Dimensions (W x H x D) = 1040 x 697 x 99mm

Panel only without pedestal stand or floor stand.

*EDIT* misunderstood the question  2.5m does sound a bit close, as Horny said best try viewing at that distance in the shop, you may see all the dithering becoming visible at that distance and if so, it's not pretty viewing.

Gonna take my tape measure tomorrow.

I am just hoping that although i have signed for finance, i should be able to back out if the TV is not here and box unopened.

What do you think. Stupid me left the paperwork at work Bang Bang.

just saw the match vs ireland : CRAP blue team, Crap blue supporters (there was 35000 Irish supporters in "le stade de france" making more noise than the 60000 others)

do you think there is a special tuner on Panny¨Plasma to make France play football as well as before ? Dooh ! sig sig I want Zidane back (don't you ? :D  :offtopic: )

Well I go to sleep with my eternal problem : size

:lesson: : Hey Thierry your armchair is 3m from the TV set, a 37' Panny with stand is enough for you
 : hey boy, don't listen this chicken !! for the same price take the 42' and a ikea stand. 37' will be too small for you in 6 months
:lesson: : Yes Thierry but your wife will shout like a furious goose when she see the TV size and not assorted with stand
 : no problem, let her shout, women always shoot. take the 42, boy !!
:lesson: : you'll regret, sure ask my friend hornydragon...he has always the best answer
    : grrr ! I hate dragon

Well : 37' or 42' inches that is the question (considering it should be 37' in fact) 20 days to make my mind (but I swear stopping flooding with the same question from now :spam: )

    Bonne nuit gentlemen !

3m me semblent un recul suffisant pour un 42"... Maintenant ça dépend, tu tiens vraiment à ta WAF? (j'déconne of course! ;) )

Transl: 3m distance seems enough to me for a 42" screen; now it depends, do you really care about your WAF?

When seagulls follow ze trawler, it is because they think sardines will be thrown into ze sea. As quoted by Eric Cantona :D

So my friend. Your saying that 3 metres is good enough for a 42" :)

héhé lool Eric cantona : one of the greatest french philosoph, (incl montesquieu, voltaire, bergson) :lesson:

with Anelka, you may be quiet, he will not deliver sentences like this one....he never speaks

considering the distance : my problem is : 3 m is either good for 37 AND 42 inches 42 is just wider...

"When seagull want to watch TV they prefer the 42 inches, because they think they can stay higher..."

the actually diffeence between 42 and 37 screen sizes is very little as they are measured diaganolly........
    42" 1140 x 757 x 99mm
    37" 1040 x 697 x 99mm
Whats 100mm between man and wife?????? ;)

    Good news and bad news.

First the bad. My LCD will not be coming in till Wedensday. :(

The Good news.I have 7 days home approval. If not satisfied i can pick from the shop.
They had a Panny 37" Viera for £2999 but they will pricematch anything that is not WEB based only.
So i can still go to Sound & Vision and LE conecpts. :) which will get it down to £2199 Anybody know any better. :)

Oh and took my measurements with me.
The 37" looks fine to both me and the wife. :D even down to 2.3 metres where i usually sit on the floor.
Oh and the picture was Lord of The Rings and it looked outstanding.
    Cheers guys.

Krish AV have the 37PE30 in stock for £1999. They also have a real shop so you should be fine.

    http://www.krishav.co.uk/store/prodView.asp?idProduct=952&idCategory=496

I'm trying to get John Lewis to price match it for the 5 year warranty. :)

I heard back from JL today regarding my price match query...

Apparently KrishAV charge £40 for delivery, so John Lewis have agreed a match for £2039. Still a good price so I'll be placing my order very shortly. :D
