humming noise :\

    hello there!

    im just curious if my sub has had a fault as im hearing a small humming sound from the subwoofer. even when my amp is turned off

    im sure im not hearing things but i cant remember that noise when i first got that system.

    so what possible causes do you think it is?

    ive got a standard sub with my AE EVO 3B and my amp is a yamaha RX-V750 from deutsch land :D

    any ideas people? :rolleyes:

    Is the noise coming from the speaker driver? If not, it's the sub amp's mains transformer and there isn't much you can do about it. A replacement may or may not be better.

    If it is coming from the driver, see if the noise stops when you pull the sub cable (the one to the amp) out. If it does, it's a ground loop or hum pickup from an inadequately-shielded cable; if not, it's a poor-quality or faulty sub amp.

    If this is just mains humm then replace your sub interconnect to a higher quality one. (if your using the low level input)

    I had this problem and replaced my sub cable with a QED SR-SW.
    What a difference it made, corrected the fault and get a better sound - well worth the money.
