Just seen on Humax UK Web site they have changed the 9000T launch date as follows :-

"PVR 9000T(Twin Tuner PVR) will be available around the middle of Next year."

Glad I got the 8000T instead of waiting till the 9000T's previously announced date of the end of this year.

This is interesting - 18 months after first being announced.

People may knock the Twin but at least it proved there is a market!

Shame that many so many people have so many problems with it as it ticks most of the boxes.

Pace could have sewn up the market as they obviously had the right ideas, just not the talent to make it work.

If Humax can do it with the 8000, why can't Pace?

I'm also glad I plumped for the bargain 8000, can wait a few months for twin tuners, unless something esle comes along.

In my opintion, Humax are making a mistake if they don't get the 9000T released before Fusion get their FVRT200 out... A lot of people would prefer the Humax since Fusion is a start-up company, but by then Fusion will have proved themselves. I don't think it should be a race, but I do wonder why there are such hefty delays with these machines.

They may be changing the design to make it compatible with Top up TV.

I spoke to Humax Customer Services today about remote control codes for the 8000T, and just happened to mention about the delay for the 9000T. They did indeed say the 9000T was being delayed to allow time for a a smartcard reader to be designed into the unit to allow it to handle the TUTV cards.

Isn't this the one that will have the removable hard drive? I wonder if that will facilitate copying stuff straight to a PC. Also, I hope the now/next system is better than the 8000. Might email them on both counts as they do seem to able to make a stable box.

They also seem open to suggestions. I dropped Michael a line about some ideas for future software and he seemed to indicate he would pass the comments on to their engineering department. Fingers crossed!

A few weeks ago I read somewhere (What Video maybe?) that they have dropped the idea of a removable HD as the major retailers were against it!

Hmm, It is really killing me paying min. subscription to $ky for what should be freeview channels. Being as a twin tuner model is so far away I am now considering the single tuner model as I don't want to be shelling out £13 a month to $ky (I hate em  )

My only gripe would be that the single tuner Humax would be worth buttons when the twin model comes out but I guess you can't have everything. It is the case that if i payed my $ky subscription till summer next year when the twin tuner comes out I would have lined mr Murdoch's pockets with over £120 and nothing to show for it....therefore I think the single tuner model is an option.

    sorry for my ramblings

Just think, when you get the PVR 9000T along with the PVR 8000T, you can record two programmes on different channels and watch a third programme on another channel as well. Three channels at once. :D

That is a pvr8000, a completely different machine to the pvr8000T despite the confusing name. The pvr8000 is a satellite only unit.

Isn't it just as easy to daisy chain the Humax through a very cheap Goodmans GBD2 and voila! - a twin tuner.

(you can always watch the odd programme on Analogue, whilst recording a Digital.

The only problem here is that the analogue signals are tricky to get uniformly good reception on all channels. No such problem with the Freeview, it just works (though some postcodes nearby not so - hilly terrain))

160G HDD been in for a while now, no problems and still filling up (very few of the 'glitches' now - maybe due to upgraded firmware). Only issue is a bit of a resonance on the metal lid still with some moving part of HDD. It can be damped but (!) depending on temp, the attempts to damp it, if left in place, can make things worse (bit of a buzz). maybe I'll remove lid & bend its sides in/out very slightly to alter tension.

Great machine. Why doesn't everyone have one?!

Just had an email from Humax sales about the twin tuner version,

    Dear customer,

Thank you for your interest in Humax products.

The PVR9200T will be available from sometime between August and September this year. It will have a 160GB HDD.

Unfortunately we have not published the detailed specification for PVR-9200T and have not finalized the unit price yet.

    Kind regards,

hi people, just got off the phone from Humax. They told me that you will be able to record two channels at once while watching something pre-recorded onto the HDD. I asked her to make sure so she checked with her techie people and confirmed this to me. She also said that the unit is due to be launched end of August (which is what I was told 2 months ago) but there is no rrp price set yet.

If you can't wait this long I have found another make which looks interesting:

    Topfield TF5800T - http://www.unbeatable.co.uk/CatalogueItem_26365.html

Anyone know if it's any good?

Wow! This all sound good, I have the Single Tuner (8000) model - the sound and picture quality are top class, a 2nd Tuner reallly would make this a winner!!!

Component isn't really any better than RGB (assuming your PJ can take RGB, lots can via the component connections). The exception is when the device supports prog scan and it's deinterlacer is better than the one in the PJ.

If component output is vital then the Topfield 5800 will output component thru it's scart socket. It doesn't look like you'd loose out on any of the provisional features for the Humax (except show channel name on the front display).
