I have spoken to Humax who tell me that there new Freeview PVR is now available. The software can be updated from the serial port (why did you not implement that Pace)

    Price of around £200.00

Anybody seen one yet, PVR 8000T (or 800T) some confusion).

I really want a DTT PVR, Had a Pace back in April, that soon went back due to soft picture. (Yes I know the picture has been sorted but it is still full of bugs and is now over priced with that size HDD)

    User Manual on Humax website

qed-uk seem to be doing them for £172, but having just read the manual, I am very disappointed to see that it has only one tuner so you can't change channels while you're recording, and no mention is made about archiving the contents of the hard disk via the vcr scart.

The Pace twin still looks a far more capable machine, bugs or no.

On what grounds do Humax claim this is a PVR?

IMHO the only true PVR is a TiVo - everything else is merely a DVR - a digital video recorder.

I am Sure SKy would say that Sky+ is a PVR and Pace would argue that the Twin is also a PVR and even the link functions on some other systems (panny and Sony would count)

anyone know what these babies are like quality wise? I was going to get one of the fusion boxes but as they have been delayed a few months...pity about the single tuner though!

any idea how much footage you can get on the 400mb disk?

    thanks

Try looking at reviews here: http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/cgi-bin/forum/YaBB.pl?board=freeviewbox
and review of the Humax F2 Fox here: http://www.idtv.co.uk/_reviews/HumaxF2FoxT.html
or even Humax web site: http://www.humaxdigital.com/

There is also a twin tuner DTT PVR due from Humax (the PVR9100T) in early 2004

Initial thoughts only my second day

    Plus points
So far 100% reliable with recordings (early days)
So far has not hung (even going up and down the channels)
    Quite
Good picture quality (i.e. no difference to my Pioneer STB)
    40G HDD approx 20 hrs
Text seems quick, but I can only compare with my old Pioneer STB
Digital audio out (Still to try)
S-Video, RGB & Composite out to TV
    S-Video & Composite to VCR
Channel No on Front panel display
Always records the last 30 mins of channel selected therefore Rewind, playback & pause what you are watching.
Now & next EPG but screen laid out for 7 day (when it comes)
MHEG text out of the box
Software unloadable from PC via serial port (get software from there website)

    Minus Points
Remote low quality (but I have a Pronto)
Can’t record radio (doesn’t bother me, but a bit strange)
Can’t playback a HDD recording whilst Recording onto HDD (this should be possible as it can read / write the same time for live TV replay)
Have to enter a password to delete a recording (a bit tedious) (but I have a Pronto, I feel a macro coming on)

Maybe I'm missing something, but you all say the 8000 has only one tuner and yet Humax's site states it has 2. Any ideas?

To those who have purchased the PVR-8000T - I'm interested in this unit but I'm keen to transfer recordings to my PC - this hasn't got a USB like the PVR-8000 has it? Is the hard drive easily accessible/removeable so I can stick it on an ata channel of my PC?
    Thanks

    John

Re HDD not sure, have not taken the lid off yet. But I can tell that it is a Seagate.

I have to say that I am very impressed with it.

Pace should take note on how to release a stable product.

I wish some manufacturers made their Freeview/new "PVR" boxes in "standard" width to match other bits of Hi-Fi AV equipment.
It seems like they've all gone for the "make it as narrow as possible" approach, but I want one that's 430mm!
I'm hoping the Fusion will be and if so that's the one I'll buy..

Simon - you could always attach some bits of balsa wood to the sides (painted the same colour as the box if you're fussy)

    :p

The Humax range has one huge drawback - you cannot record digital radio. If you never listen to radio then it's no big deal, but it is not made clear by the manufacturers or sellers that there is this shortcoming.

I record lots of radio to listen to while travelling. I bought the Pace Twin and it is fantastic. I cannot speak highly enough about it. Excellent design and very easy to use. Most of the bugs have now gone thanks to software upgrades.

    Spok.

I have the 8000t arriving tomorrow, only £165 and free shipping from qed.
No more loose scarts and recording blank image from my freeview box to VCR :)

I don't record radio and I have freeview on my tellie, so its perfect for me.
And I also use a pronto.

You will need to set up a macro for the delete a recording function.

The Pronto is great with a Humax.

I have only had a quick play with it so far, it seems great.
Will think about macros when I have spent more time with it.
I had a bit of a scare, I thought the mirror finish was scratched badly until i realised it had a protective coating which peels off

Pace should take note on how to release a stable product. [/B][/QUOTE]

I Think you are being unfair, The PACE Twins was initially flawed indeed but it was the first, and we (the buyers) were pretty impatient I believe, to own a bitstream recorder.

Almost a year later we have the second recorder (one tuner though). I think we should cut them a little slack.
