Humax PVR 9150,Various Problems
Had this 2 weeks now, Humax PVR 9150 still got various problems, it fails to record sheduled programmes sometimes, and when your recording one channel and what to watch other channels some
display bad or no signal, some recordings are a couple of minutes late starting, especially programmes that start dead on time. Ive done a manual tune ( 6 Multiplex ) all channels showing very good signal strength & signal quality. It froze last night,(not for the first time) I don't really no where to go from here, replacement or refund, the product is exactly what I want if only I could get it to work properly. I wonder if the software update on Feb 6th will make any differance

.

Humax says:

When you are recording a channel this falls into a channel group so you will notice that you will have a restriction when setting up or recording programs which is quite normal,

Yes that's correct. There are two tuners in the Humax machines so you can record any two channels from the six multiplex channels and you can also watch a different channel provided it is from either of the two multiplexes being recorded. So you could record say BBC1 and Film 4 both at the same time and watch another freeview channel from Mux1 or MuxD at the same time.

You can also playback a previous recording whilst recording two channels at the same time.

The no signal & freezing problems could be caused by an inadequate aerial signal. It may not be strong enough to supply both Humax tuners plus the TV tuner.
Try fitting a TV booster.

You can also set the Humax machine to start recordings early and to finish later than the end time.

Thanks for information regarding Multi Plex etc. The Humax is fed by a big rooftop ariel 2 stories up thats always given me excellent reception even on analogue tuner of my TV, always shows near100% signal strength on my Panasonic HDD DVD recorder.

Check that your channels are all from the same transmitter. Usually (but not always) the clue is channels numbered 800, 801 etc which may be more reliable duplicates of the normally-numbered channels. In this case remove all channels and manually tune to just the frequencies from your best transmitter.

It's worth checking that both tuners function. You can do this with PIP, and since you have the multiplex/channel information select one sample channel from each mux for the following combinations:
Main screen Mux / PIP mux
1 / 2
1 / 3
1 / 4
1 / 5
1 / 6
2 / 3
2 / 4
2 / 5
2 / 6
3 / 4
3 / 5
3 / 6
4 / 5
4 / 6
5 / 6

It never occurred to me to check twin tuner combinations using the Pip Screen. the list of combinations you give me all seem to check out ok. I'm not sure what you mean select one sample channel from each mux . What I have found is; Example; when I'm watching Say BBC1/2, ITV3 is blank on the Pip screen & if I'm watching ITV3, BBC1/2 is blank on the Pip screen. I might add it has failed to record a programme on the Yesterday Channel at 12noon the other day with no other channel been recorded.

Yes so with BBCONE and BBCTWO on the same mux, you can watch/record both, but with ITV1 on a different mux, two tuners are required to receive that and a BBC channel.

Someone recently had a 9300 which failed to receive two channels (or record any) and a defaults setting followed by re-tuning cured this - he too had been previously unable to view two channels with PIP.
