Just had an email from Humax stating that we can expect an OTA software update for the HDR FOXSAT later next week 26th-28th Nov- I wonder what it will bring?

If it's the long awaited and promised update.

A fix for the power cut bug that stops recording schedules following a power cut if the hdr is not fully on

The ability to rewind and record the time shift buffer

Not familiar with SKY+ I'm somewhat confused with the concept of buffer recording. So if my Hummy is for example showing BBC1HD and I change to ITVHD and find the programme has already started I would be still able to record the whole programme? Doesn't that suggest that a buffer is constantly being held for every channel or is it JUST the channel currently selected? If the latter then it would be only of limited value IMHO.

It's just the channel you are watching, buffering starts when you select the channel. (It's a seperate area of the hdd that's used from the recordings partition) This is why you can pause and rewind live TV. Currently the hdr lets you rewind in the buffer but you can't record from the point you rewound to.

The email I received only mentions the FOX T2 (terrestrial)not the FoxSat range. I have emailed Humax to find out why there is no mention of the previous advised updates for the FOXSAT range. I am still waiting for an answer. Also the DTG http://www.dtg.org.uk/industry/download_schedule.php?utm_source=streamsend&utm_medium=email&utm_content=12965797&utm_campaign=Humax%20High%20Definition%20PVR%20software%20updates%20and%20Christmas%20Warranty%20update site shows no change to the FOX SAT HD and HDR OTA software updates that have been available for a long time.

Received a reply from Humax and the FOXSat updates are delayed for one to two weeks. There was no explanation, just an apology.

How long will Humax carry on updating this box? I only purchased a few months ago and am wanting a good few years life out of it! :)

Humax are still issuing maintenance updates for the 9200 Freeview model (mine is over 5yrs old) although don't expect many new features beyond the forthcoming buffer recording capability. I would not expect any problems with updates to maintain the current capabilities though.

The current EPG slowdown though, how long do you think until that is addressed?

Accessing the epg by schedule and red so far not experienced any slowdown unless the cpu is heavily committed to supporting recordings.

Hi Everyone, I'm a new member although I have been reading the forums for a while.
Someone said that they had an EM from Humax about a software update fronm the 26-28 november. Did it happen, as my latest download date is January and the version i1.00.13 which is exactly what it was last month.
Please let me know if I have somehow missed it.( the HDR was either on or instandby all over the weekend
Many thanks

It's not happened yet. It's delayed due to some problems found during testing. No date yet.

The info came from one of Humax's managers who posts on DS.

AS to File Manager it's more than a bit obscure is it not :D. It helps if you have ever used Linux. Any particular thing you need to do, some obvious things are not possible like copying a whole folder and it's contents to USB.

Another oddity is that whilst I can play a program from a USB connected device and delete it, I can't seem to create a new folder on the USB drive nor rename a program. Have I missed a trick here?

Yes press media and then opt+, go right to the usb drive icon and click OK to open it. Assuming you want to create a folder in the root, press blue and choose Create Folder. Type in the name and press yellow. You can create nested folders in the same way.

To copy files into the new folder click OK to open it.

Go left move to a file to copy to the folder and press green.

To copy multiple files from a folder open the folder and then press yellow to enter edit mode. Press OK on each file you want to copy to put a tick in the box. Press green to copy all to your folder in one go. Rename is another option from the blue button.

I seem not to have explained my problem very well! I am unable to organise files (move them between folders) on the USB drive as I am able with the main hard drive. Is this a limitation of USB/Linux?

It's a limitation of file manager because you cant have two panes open for the usb drive. The only way to move files between folders short of using a PC is to transfer them back to the internal HDD which rules out HD recordings with copy once protection. If the usb device is EXT3 the easiest way is to use a PC booted into linux. With a version with a gui (like Slax) you can drag and drop files just like on a windows pc.

Does anyone know about dual tuner satellite receiver boxes which do NOT require the two input cables. My (French) satellite installer says the French satellite boxes don't need 2 cables. Some magic inside the boxes manages the dual tuners .... ring any bells?

If the box is used with standard universal lnb's no amount of jiggery pokery can give full two tuner working. If the box is scr capable and used with a scr lnb (or a stacker/destacker and a twin universal lnb) then yes a single cable can be used.

Sorry, can you explain "scr capable" and "scr lnb"

Thanks
