humax freesat digital audio connection

can anyone help.
just connected my humax freesat box to my a/v amp via optical link,but found that i can't control t.v volume with humax remote,as i could when t.v was connected directly to a/v amp via audio cable.
i can only now control t.v volume with a/v amp remote.

Why do you want to control the TV volume when you're using the amplifier for audio?

The Humax remote is not clever enough to have punch through to control the amplifier volume in the PVR mode. Short of a something like a logitech harmony you need to programme the hdr remote to control your amp using the other device buttons

i have t.v volume set to min.,so not using t.v speakers.so before was controlling t.v volume through amp via humax remote.
now with optical link connected between humax box and amp,i can't do this.am i missing a setting or is this how it is.
trying to avoid having to use 2 remote's.

Originally the hdr let you control the volume over s/pdif but only for SD channels using MP2 sound which the box converts to PCM. It's not possible to control the volume of Dolby Digital used by the HD channels as it's encoded in the data stream. Your amp has to alter the volume after the data is decoded into either stereo or 5.1 analogue. Humax took the SD volume control off in the latest firmwares. This is a right pain as you used to be able set up the SD volume so that there was little volume difference between HD and SD channels

Same happens to me...same set-up.
