I would consider an online retailer in preference.

When I questioned a member of Dixons staff they were pretty clueless about the box (the one on the shelf a 40Gb model didn't even have a price).

Hughes Direct have them for around £150, take a look: http://ws3.hughesdirect.co.uk/showproduct/HUM-PVR8000T-80GB and I've already received one from them.

Yes it was the 80gb. Can't remember the price for sure but it was about £180, might be best to give them a ring if you're interested

They're available on the Superfi website for £180 (40GB model is £140). Might also be in-store

I got my 80Gb model for £143 from www.QED-uk.com less than a week ago (the price then went down to £139.xx but now it's gone up to £149.99). I booked the delivery online after 6.30pm last Thursday for Saturday delivery and it arrived at 10AM Saturday). Well impressed both with delivery time and the kit.

Slightly off topic, but can this machine record one programme, whilst playing back another. (I know it has only one tuner)
    Many thanks

I have this model, unfortunately it can't record one programme, whilst playing back another.

EPG is a little awkward to navigate.

My box makes a ticking sound for about a minute after switch-on, not sure if this is normal.

Can the 80Gb model record from Freeview Digital Radio ? I know the 40Gb one could not. TIA.

...it appears not to, no. The device does seem to make the recording, but I seem unable to play it back. Video records/plays back OK, but radio seems to record but not play back (although 'meta' information like programme, time, date etc is stored).

    Cheers Fatman

It appears my wait for a PVR that does record radio (via a timer as well) will continue then. Bit of a shame really with a PVR that sports a digital output (ie for digital recording to MD/CDR or sending signals to a DAC in a hifi system like I do already with the 221T). In fact not a shame a real design oversight.

I'd hang on for other opinions, if I were you. Today is literally my first day with the PVR8000T so it's possible I haven't found all it's quirks and foibles yet. It does appear that the recording was made, so perhaps other people have discovered tricks to play those digi-radio recordings back. If not, then maybe Humax could fix this with a future software update.

Fatman Ive heard this before about the Humax 8000T from a HFN review IIRC. Id hoped the 80Gb model may have been sorted.

I've had my 80Gb for almost a week. I haven't tried radio recording yet but I do remeber it said on the box that it could do this. I'm sure I also read on the RadioandTelly forum that the later versions of the software (from v13 I think) can record radio.

I'll have to give it a go.

The Humax can record radio; i tried it and it works fine. On playback the TV screen doesn't show the radio station id though.
