    Hi

Just bought a Humax pvr8000 (80gb). All appears to work fine but when you 1st switch it on (from standby as well) it makes a clicking noise for 2 or 3 minutes. Changing channels can speed up or slow down the clicking.

Is this normal Humax behaviour, i can't find anyone else with a Humax to ask?
If not normal i will send back for a replacement.

    Many thanks,

    John

Mine did it when I first got it and it would go away after a few minutes, when I swapped to a 200GB HD the clicking went away.

    Thanks for the info thudspud

Does that mean Humax use noisy/cheap hard drives? Are they standard IDE drives or do i need a particular speed read/write access times 5400/7200rpm ?

Not that I wasn't intending to buy a brand new piece of kit and then change all the components!

They are standard PATA IDE hard disks and the speed is not important. What is important is that you use a model that others have had success with as some models and brands do not work correctly.

A 'how to' thread is available here:
