Since the last couple of software updates my 8000T80 seems to have developed a fault.

Occasionally, when turned on or timer set, the box does not initiate properly, getting stuck with 4 dashes ---- on the display. Turning the off the switch at the back has made no difference. This is really only a problem for timed recordings because obviously nothing is going to get recorded.

Anybody had this problem (since update) or is it just faulty?

    Any ideas welcome.

Yes - I get this too.
It happens very occasionally, perhaps every 10 or so activations.
What happens is that the HDD goes though its usual initialisation. I *think* it then pauses at 80% and then goes into the boot Application/Games re-load (which should normally only occur on a software update).
After this has finished the machine displays '----' and stops.
As you say, if this happened during a timed recording then presumably the recording would not occur.
The other consequence of this happening is the EPG is wiped.
Scheduled and recorded programs are unaffected.
I had a theory that this might occur if the machine were switched off too quickly whilst it was still accessing the HDD - but experiments proved this not to be so.
I cannot determine any pattern to these occurrences.

    Regards,
    Crispin.

Humax's advice was to re-initialise the factory settings.
I did this and so far the problem has not re-surfaced.

Sorry for such a late response.
It does seem to happen every 10 start ups or so. In fact I got about 10 recordings achieved whilst on holiday before it failed again.
Thanks for the advice, I will give that a go and see if clears it.
