So 2 weeks ago our Humax 1100s 500GB lost all of our recordings, space used showed as 1%, I left it 24 hours and they were all back.

It's happened again but they've been gone for 2 days now with no sign of them returning. Is the box knackered? or just the drive? Can I just swap In any old hard drive?

I'd rather not have to buy another box, its less than 3 years old I think.

    Thanks.

This happens occasionally, thought to be caused by using commands (especially recordings) before all boot threads are finished. Try putting unit in standby, wait 5 minutes then disconnect power for 10 minutes (5 if pull the power supply connection from the back of the unit).
Then restart - The unit should power-up, pickup the time and return to standby. Power on should then start the unit normally.

Any Disk problems are more likely to be structural errors rather than hardware, So try a reformat if the problem becomes frequent. Suitable drives are AV/CE drives - low voltage and error tolerant which rules out PC drives.
