    Hiya
Had an old (12+ years) humax which displayed the EXACT SAME issues as described below for the 1100s, but on a daily basis, so replaced it with the 1100s last month. All was well until this weekend when this is what happened.
Turned on TV, then humax, went to programmes recorded earlier and watched.
    Fast forwarded over all adverts.
Watched several programmes over four hours, deleted when done.
Was fast forwarding over an ad and the remote refused to work, could not stop the fast forward, could not turn off the humax buy remote, no response.
the only way to kill it was to hit the off button on the actual box and leave for ten mins.
during this time, the TV remote also would not work ie would not change back from AV channel to tv channel, would not turn up or down volume or change channels, and the only way to unfreeze it was to manually tun off tv for half an hour.
this does not happen every time, but seems to happen when I have been using the box for a log period of time.
So, have changed batteries in both remotes
neither remote controls the other, ie they are totally independent.
tv is a panaxonic viera around 5 years old
    linked by HDMI
have reset to factory and this also does not work
I have found that pressing the ok and 0 button on the humax remote whilst batteries are out gets me control of the humax remote but NOT THE TV...
    HELP!

This may sound a bit strange, try covering the TV screen with a large piece of cardboard or similar. Does your TV remote volume now work ?

    Hello
thanks for the response. If this is to block the signal from the humax remote, I have already tried it by removing humax remote batteries and placing humax remote into a wooden box. In this case, the tv remote did not work. If it is for something else, do I have to cover the whole of the screen (not certain I have that amount of card in the house) or just the part where the signal is recieved on the screen?
And yes, it does sound odd, but to be honest if someone suggested waving a purple sock and singing 'rains of castamere' I think I would give it a go :)

It's not. It's possible for a TV backlight to go faulty and emit a large amount of infra red into the room swamping any remote control activity. Anything that stops infra red should work if that is the cause.

When I booted up my old TV (Cold Cathode Backlighting) a Infra Red repeater led shows an infra red source for about 30 seconds or so.

Try taking a digital photo of the screen when tuned to a off air channel. Infra red shows up on a digital camera.

Just turn the TV off and see if the Humax remote responds again?

Unfortunately in the absence of a front display about the only obvious keys would be the power toggle or the instant recording button.
