Hum on cat5 cabling when linked to AVR pre-out?

I need to connect some of the channels on my Denon x3600 AVR with a separate amplifier in a different room connected via 50metres of CAT5 cabling.

For this purpose I’ve bought a simple Lindy cat5/RCA converter. When I use this cabling setup to send sound from the headphone jack of an iPad I get perfect sound with no hum / static so there is no problem with the cabling, plugs or recipient amp. However, when I connect the pre-out of the Denon AVR I get a very loud humming sound (it’s more the 60hz rather than 120hz variety...).

Any tips on what I can do? I’ve searched quite extensively and the only info I came across is importance of the line being balanced vs unbalanced. Any tips on what I can do to balance the pre-out feed? Why is an iPad balanced differently to an expensive amplifier?!

Apologies for the ignorant questions but I’m starting to despair. Would really welcome any assistance!

many thanks
