Did anyone see Grand Designs last night ? I know it was a repeat and I saw it first time round, but watching this episode again was fantastic.

A couple in their 70's had built their own house 40 years ago in Surrey. They decided they wanted a change and bought a Huf Haus, Designed by German Peter Huf (http://www.huf-haus.de/en) and look spectacular.

The house is basically a Prefab built in a factory in Germany but the amazing thing was that these houses are built to a watertight within 4.5 days ! A team of germans come across with all of their tools and bolts and although they first estimated 6 days and the British crane driver was sent to the wrong adress and didn't turn up until 4 hours after he was supposed to be there on the first day, they still made it with 1.5 days to spare !

The only things that British builders needed to do was supply the concrete (German builders putting the concrete in) where the last load was late meaning the footings might not have bonded correctly and supply the crane to which that was 4 hours late !

Anyway, fantastic design , just a shame I haven't got an acre of land to put it in or £450k to buy one :(

    Richie.

I wanted to watch it but was over ruled by SWMBO and had to watch Crimewatch UK instead. :(

I saw it on one of the SKY home/DIY/living/property/ channels the other week, so it may be worth keeping an eye on those channels.

Only caught the last part of it. But what a stunning house.

    Couldn't agree more !

Did you see the week previous to that where a couple built a home in warehouse near Waterloo ? The ended up using stock bricks that the neighbours didn't like and lobbied to take them back down and had an oven that can be found in some top hotel costing £30k ! It didn't work to start with :rotfl:

That's a shame, see if you can download it from the net.

They are building a Huf Haus at the Grand Design Show from the 10th-12th July.

Another thing that amazed me was that the maximum length of a wall piece was 15m. That was only because it wouldn't fit on the truck if they made it any bigger !

very impressive, bu that German house needed to be in the right setting, would look wrong in many British streets.

I saw it but did not like the look of it although I was impressed but the workmanship.
Thought it funny they guy thought he had found a fault as a bolt was missing. but seems the plate with the holes in was a stadard bit of kit and so one f the holes could not be used because of a metal beam behind it.

As the sre did some tiling because it was 1 mm out from one end to the other.

And the call bad work gerry built :nono:

Beautiful building, i also like the one they lived in before. Takes guts to self build, and finance of course.
