HTPC Processor

Hello there,

I'm about to build a HTPC but was wondering if a 65 watt processor will
cause the fan to loud? I can't find a 45 watt (or less) processor for sale
anywhere.
What processors are you guys using and are they quiet enough?

cheers

moved to htpcp section - you may get a better response

I'm using an E5300 which is 65w. I'm passively cooling it so the rig is nice an quiet

I don't know whether you would consider going down the AMD route...?

I've just purchased an AMD Athlon II X2 240e OEM processor from YoyoTech for my new HTPC build. It's a dual-core 2.8GHz Athlon II which has a maximum TDP of 45W. I'm running it fanless at the moment; just a big SilverStone NT-06 cooler. I've been keeping an eye out for these processors ever since the news first came out about them. YoyoTech seem to be the only people in the UK selling them, and mine arrived on Wednesday and it's definitely the 240e.

So far, very quiet :)
