Hello, i have been using xbmc on atv2 and my pi for a long while now. Love them both but they are a bit limited. Recently i have been playing about with xbmc on my late 2009 macbook and find the experience quicker and alot richer. I am looking into getting something for my front room that will be slick and quiet. I watch 1080p mkv rips at about 10gb size. No surround at the moment but hopefully by the end of the year. I also like skins like aeon nox and some of the video add-ons you can find. I like using an apple remote but also like apps like yatse. I also prefer the flexibility of a proper os rather than just having xbmc.

    I am considering:
    1. Mac mini
    2. Acer L80
    3. Lenovo q190
    4. Intel NUC, looking at ssd system put together by scan.

I don't mind blowing up to £450 for the right system. I must emphasise that it has to be quiet! i find my sky+ box annoying when the volume is low.

Does anyone have any thoughts about these options? I think the q190 is my favourite but reviews are very thin on the ground.
    Thanks

You could build something decent for that price providing you have the skills.....

Hi, I use a Mac mini with xbmc as my HTPC. Whisper quiet, energy efficient and you get to use your Tv as a giant screen for your mac. I control it with my iPhone or iPad which allow me all the functionality of a keyboard and Magic Trackpad. The only downside is cost - approx £499.

If it is of interest I am thinking of selling my Zotac ID-41 with Windows 7 and XBMC, just got to work out a price.

I am interested but only if the price is right!

I will monitor the classifieds. Is there a way to get 1st refusal within the rules?

I'm really pleased with my q190 ... but it's not silent.
I replaced the supplied HD with a Samsung SSD .. and the fan remains constantly audible.
    It's quiet - but there.

ETA - no USB3 on the NUC meant it wasn't for me - I thought this should be a pre-requisite for a new PC.
